we have a laptop and are trying to get on the internet via a wireless broadband card.

we can pull up recent email via outlook but cannot go to any web sites. It just has a progress bar at the bottom and never connects. This is no matter what site we go to.

Some ideas:

- Is the laptog getting all network info (ip, dns, gateway)?
- Can you browse with numerical IPs?
- Do you have any proxies?

Cheers,
Dian

also do a ping test, and see if you can ping websites if you can't then it is most likely Ie problems try clicking start then run, sfc /scannow. then restart the computer when it finishes. If you can pull your e-mails it is most likely IE or dns errors.

Ok. I am sorry. We can connect. The wierd thing is that it hangs up. Then if we click the signin button of the google bar, then it allows us to sign in.

I think there is some spyware or virus that has taken over.

I tried to run HijackThis and the system will not let me run it.

This is my Pastor's computer. He has tried to "uninstall" a lot of stuff and may have done more damage because he deleted a lot of stuff instead of running the uninstall features.

Is there anything else like HijackThis that I can use?

Ok. I will try this. I used HijackThis and it shuts it down everytime I launch it with it's own message saying "No viruses, no trojans or spyware found. Scan OK."

This happens as soon as I double click the HijackThis executable. This is not a HijackThis message. Not cool.

you need to run your antivirus and antispyware program, you are definitely infected with something...
