<<<<< Hi I'm a telephone technician running a test on your telephone lines. To complete the test please dial nine (9), zero (0), pound sign (#) and hang up. >>>>>
MARP stands for Multiple Reappearance Redirection Prime. This controls the hunting/forward no answer on multiple appearance exts. If this is too brief post back for more detail.
Phone A has extension 1234 on it with MARP next to the DN
Phone B has extension 1234 on it too but no MARP
Call treatments (Hunt/Forward No Answer) are all handled by Phone A because it has MARP. Phone A is considered the "control phone" for extension 1234.
Consider the scenario:
If Phone A is set to hunt to extension 2345
and Phone B is set to hunt to extension 3456
A call in to extension 1234 will hunt to extension 2345 because Phone A has control.
very simple, who owns and controls that phone number. in a rolm you build every exten soft, set the forwards hunts, all attribs.then you put that exten on sets. in a nortel, 333 can be key 0 on 31 phones, if 29 people leave and all forward to a diff person where does the call go? it goes to the forward target of the phone that has the marp for 333.. with marp turned off it goes to disney land. or nowhere or everwhere.. thats why i always have marp on
Just for fun I thought we should include the IP phones in the MARP mix! Do IP phones follow the same rules for MARP? I will be suprised if the answer is yes, but I haven't had time to do any testing or research yet.
