I have an IPO small office edition connected via a VPN to an IP406(both running 3.2.65). A call in either direction over the IP line is automatically put on hold for about five seconds after the phone goes off hook. i.e. If I call a direct extension on the small office and an employee picks up the phone we both get five seconds of dead air. In call status it shows the call in a held status and then it connects. Calls using the analog lines from the small office work fine. I have another office using a small office edition and do not have this issue. And I've compared the IP line settings and there are no differences. Could someone shed some light on this for me?

What codec do you have at each end of the link? Are they the same?

I have always wished that my computer would be as easy to use as my telephone.
My wish has come true. I no longer know how to use my telephone.

G.729(a) 8K CS-ACELP and they are the same on both IP trunks.
The following boxes are checked on both ends:
Out of Band DTMF; Allow Direct Media Path; Voice Networking

I did do something different in this remote office setup. We had an office that had 6xx as their extensions. I wanted to split those up so I used 62x and 63x for the new office and then 60x and 61x for the existing office. I believe I made all the right changes to shortcodes since we have no problems dialing either office directly by extension.

what settings are you using in the IP line. Fast start, voice networking etc.

turning direct media off and faststart on for both sides may solve issue.

make sure that there are also no duplicate names anywhere in the two systems even if the extension is different

Thanks everyone. I've double-checked to make sure there aren't duplicate names and I've unchecked the "Allow Direct Media Path" option and checked the "Faststart" option on both sides. It seems to be working now. Thanks for your help. It is greatly appreciated.

good ole DMP. You may want to spend some time going over your routing with a fine tooth comb.

the DMP comes into effect for IP sets but not for digital phones (both sides need to have digital to avoid it) so that means that you have IP sets on at least one side.
CarGoSki is right check out you routing and your network setup as there is a bug in it somehow, it might just be something trivial like a missing IP route in the IPO.
