I am fussing with system Manufacturer and providers over Caller ID.
I am trying to install a VOIP phone system at a customer location. Lines come in from the Provider via fiber optic cable, run into their equipment and convert over to analog trunks. I'm having to convert from analog trunks, using a Grandstream GXW4108, to SIP trunks so my phone system can get dial tone. Operationally, everything works except caller ID. I know my phone system use Bellcore Standards and my gateway can be set for BellCore standards. I am trying to understand what the provider is using to try and explain why it doesn't work.
What are Bellcore standards? All i have to work off of is this description: The Telcordia Technologies (formerly Bellcore) standard is used in the United States, Canada (but see below), Australia, China, Hong Kong and Singapore. It sends the data after the first ring tone and uses the 1200 bits per second Bell 202 tone modulation. The data may be sent in SDMF – which includes the date, time and number – or in MDMF, which adds a NAME field.
Can someone break this out and explain it? i don't get it.
