I am fussing with system Manufacturer and providers over Caller ID.

I am trying to install a VOIP phone system at a customer location. Lines come in from the Provider via fiber optic cable, run into their equipment and convert over to analog trunks. I'm having to convert from analog trunks, using a Grandstream GXW4108, to SIP trunks so my phone system can get dial tone. Operationally, everything works except caller ID. I know my phone system use Bellcore Standards and my gateway can be set for BellCore standards. I am trying to understand what the provider is using to try and explain why it doesn't work.

What are Bellcore standards? All i have to work off of is this description: The Telcordia Technologies (formerly Bellcore) standard is used in the United States, Canada (but see below), Australia, China, Hong Kong and Singapore. It sends the data after the first ring tone and uses the 1200 bits per second Bell 202 tone modulation. The data may be sent in SDMF – which includes the date, time and number – or in MDMF, which adds a NAME field.

Can someone break this out and explain it? i don't get it.

Break the problem in half by putting a POT phone with Caller ID display on to the analog trunks.

The CLI data is sent after the first ring tone as a burst of information.
You have the standard above, there are different standards for different areas of the world.

The problem we were having turned out to be a firmware issue with the interface device. Customer wanted the call to be picked up after 1 ring to route to the phone system. But caller ID wouldn't come in till the 4th ring. We had to get the manufacturer to write up a new firmware build which fixed the issue.

Actually it is collected between the 1st and 2nd ring. That why you set your automated attendant to answer ON ring number 2. Listen with a butt set on monitor and you will hear the CID squirt between the 1st and 2nd ring cycle

Pots/Copper lines - Caller ID reaches the client site between the first and second ring
PRI/SIP - Caller ID reaches the client site immediately

If your system (which you did not mention the type) only likes SIP Trunks then why not convert to SIP Trunks?
Instead its coming SIP to Analog then back to SIP, seems like an odd way of doing things....maybe a no wonder CLID is not working right away?

unfortunately, the equipment we were using in the configuration we had it, caller ID wasn't coming through even on the third and fourth ring. The call would get to the phone system and no caller ID would show. Turned out to be a bug in the firmware.
