I am running Call Pilot on a Nortel BCM400. About a week ago after a power failure, the Voice Mail system starts going down nightly. When logged into the BCM under services, the voicemail option shows "down" and twice it has showed "n/a". By changing to enabled the vm system is instantly up. I have not been able to catch it going down to see if there is any kind of alarm. I can find nothing in the logs. Once enabled it will stay up well over 15 hours or more but fails sometime in the early morning hours 2am-6am. This has happened every single night since it began.

Any thoughts ?

Possible hard drive [pre]immenient[/pre] failure..
Do a back up off the hard drive and keep it safe.

Replace the hard drive and do a restore

It's got mirrored drives in a raid configuration. We replaced one drive about two years ago. When it started to go bad it had errors reported. It is actually set up to back up nightly and I have not seen any issues with it. Not saying it isn't possible but am not seeing any indications that is it.

Thanks.

What release of BCM 400 is it?. It sounds as if it might be the older NT version 2.x or 3.x etc. It's no uncommon for both hard disks to become corrupted.

All the best

If it's working, then leave it alone!.

BCM 3.6 Build 2.2c
Call Pilot 37.01.10.22

BFT maybe?

I have searched high and low on this one and have yet to find anything close. Even a couple Nortel Phone techs were stumped by it.

At this time it would appear that when the power outage hit, the system was attempting a scheduled backup. It thought that backup, which had failed was still in process. No amount of soft reboot would clear it. I could not even delete the scheduled backup or change the volume information. Only a hard reboot cleared the error. It took a couple long nights but I was able to determine that the Call Pilot system went down at precisely the time that the nightly backup was to start. Once the hard boot was made and the error cleared Call Pilot has not went down since. It has been over a week now.

However, I can no longer perform a backup. I have tried multiple destinations. It accepts the volume information, verifies the password of the user account, asks for the report name and when going to the next step it quickly flashes "System error: -2146697195. -- - Line:0" then moves onto the saying the backup is in progress and that the BRU is processing - Please wait.

It never finishes or gives any other errors or messages.

Using ver 3.6 Backup and Restore utility. Everything else is working fine. I can log into the BCM and make changes as usual.

Thoughts ??

Thanks.

I assume you are doing the backup from an XP machine or Windows Virtual Machine XP mode?
