Call information when call is initiated!

I have figured out that you can get the call information using SMDR and telnet once the call has ended but is there anyway i can get information when the call is initiated?

You want to know when the phone goes off hook? Why?

SMDR contains all call info once a call completes.
 
I want to build in the functionality of brining up the customers information automatically in our contact management system while the person is on the phone. It's no good once the customer has hung up.
