I have a strange situation and cannot determine how this is happening. I have a DID that when dialed from an external number is going straight to the voicemail box for the caller to leave a message, however, if you dial the extension internally it goes right to the individual who answers. This started happening all of a sudden on Saturday afternoon, no changes to this TN have been made. What is also puzzeling is that the person swears that when the mailbox recording begins the caller is supposed to be given an option to leave a message or talk to someone on the same DN that was dialed. How is that possible?

thanks in advance.

Not sure. It's been like that for as long as I know, but I was curious why it was setup like that as well. I haven't seen any other sets setup like that, both are usually the same. As I understand it, as long as the LHK is set at 6, calls will roll up the chain before going to VM.

Is the incoming call "rolling up the chain" because the first line is busy and getting to a phone that is forwarded to vmail? So the call in effect goes right there?

FDN - no answer route

Hunt - Busy route

Might be a good idea to match them with VM DN on both for trouble shooting purposes.

If these numbers are all on phones in a single area, like in a dispatch center, set marp on a single phone for all shared appearances. That way a single phone will be in control of where the appearances go...cfw, hunt, etc.

My dispatch center has 2616s with 6 shared appearances. Only one phone in the place has a cfw and only short hunt and all appearances are marp'd to that phone. No one has vm or a dedicated appearance, though. Seems like the tn above does, though...complicates things a tiny bit.

Check what your fdn and hunt extensions are, and what those extensions are doing to the calls.

Hope this helps...

MIke G.

The TNB listed above is the single phone where the line is marped. It is on 6 sets in our Circ Dispatch area. What they are telling me just started on Saturday is that if you dial 2608 internally you get straight to a dispatcher but if you dial the line from outside the building the call is going to VM. However, they insist before Sat the outside caller would get a menu for the option (1) to leave a message or (2) to speak to a dispatcher.

Thanks again.

It seems as if this extension may serves as a main line number of some sort. When customers dial the number it will hunt to the 6067 extension. Now I would look at extesion 6067 and see where that hunts as well and so on.The FDN is useally the voice mail extension ,however it may never get there because you are hunting. Also as for as when customers get into the voice mail and can hit an option ,you will have to go into the voice mail system and ensure that this extension is built a Menu Service ,unless they have a regular mailbox with the revert dn going to a specified ext.

WOW my bad ,look like you are hunting to your Key 1.Change the hunt to 5870.If you are on key 0 (2608) the next call to extension 2608 will route to voice mail.Sorry for the confusion.

Good catch, Spunky! Didn't even see that one...

Now I am getting confused...
If the call comes in to 2068 from outside and 2068 is already engaged, it would short hunt up the chain for a free line, still under the marp of 2068?

If it short hunts to no avail, it would then hunt to 6067 or fna to 5870? Should hunt away if 2068 is busy, I think.

Now if it hunts to 6067, would it then be under marp control of whatever tn 6067 marp'd to? It should then short hunt up that chain, then hunt away to whatever dn is set on that tn's hunt.

Why would this be different depending on internal/external calls landing on that dn? Is there a cls, ncos setting or something else that can control this? (Might be useful!)

The whole hunt/short hunt process has been kinda hard for me to wrap my mind around, as to how far it will go and all that. I'm not a phone guy by any stretch, but I've learned a lot from the books and my support vendor. It's a nice break from Windows, linux, routers and users...

For a set that hasn't been changed, how come the LAST Change date is 3MAY???????

This is a Signature and not part of the answer, it appears on every reply.

This is an Analogy so don't take it personally as some have.

Why change the engine if all you need is to change the spark plugs.

By the way, you said it started Saturday. Well Saturday was 3 MAY.

The Saturday change date was from changing the marp to a different set to see if the problem went away. When it didn't we changed the marp back to this set.

Is it possible that you might have IDC on the DID number and it is an SDN in voicemail which has the voice menu removed and so now it is still going to voicemail but no target for external calls. However, internally things are fine....

look in LD 49 for that DN.

Acewarlock,
Good response,I would definately look in the IDC table as well,If call works fine internally and not externally that would have been the first place I would have looked.I have been away from the Nortel for about a year now and forgot about the IDC table.

If the DN is in the IDC table ,be sure to do a chg and not out.
