If a user on an IP Office with only 2 call appearance keys has one call on hold or park and an active call, can they transfer the active call? I don't have a system here to test with but I have a client who wants a lot of other keys on their phone.

Yes. Transfer is a fixed feature key near the dial pad on all digital and IP sets.

From a quick test, yes and no. With the two calls (1 held, 1 connected) on my J100 series phones, there was a Transfer soft key option.

When I pressed it, the connected call also went on hold pending transfer, but I wasn't able to dial a number on the dial pad - hence the no part. But I was able to access the contacts directory and select a contact. Also worked with using an entry from the call log and with a user key - so seems to be yes but only to a prestored number.

The oddest thing was that in contacts I could actually composed a new contact, enter their number and then use them for the transfer - which seems a lot of work rather than the dialpad just being live.

Thank you Sizbut.
What if you have a user key for the extension you wish to transfer to programmed on your phone. Can you press the Transfer soft key followed by the user key to transfer the call? or does that still require a free Call Appearance key?

As previous said in the original answer "...and with a user key."

If you transfer a call, it puts the initial caller on "hold", then (as part of teh transfer)the phone grabs an intercom button....if you dont have an open interom button, you can not transfer...

if you only have 1 intercom button, you can not possibly transfer the call....

Your first statement though, is misleading...only 2 call appearance keys has one call on hold or park and an active call,.....
This changes things. If you only have 2 intercoms, and you already have a call on hold, you will not be able to transfer....BUT, if you have a call on hold, and another call comes in (2 intercom buttons) then you would need to PARK 1 of the calls, then go back to the other caller, and now you would be able to transfer as you haev an open appearance button to complete the transfer.

Intercom buttons are Basic Edition. Nobody said basic edition!

You would want a 3rd call appearance.

The cutting edge may have nicked an artery..

Thanks for the help! 3 Call Appearances is what they need no mater how many feature keys they want.

If you reserve a last appearance CA under User/Telephony/Multi-line Options, you will always be able to transfer a call.

Normally you always wanna have "Reserve Last CA" enabled so you can always transfer an active call.
With this if you have 2 CA buttons you can get one call in and are able to transfer that call.
If you have 3 CA button you can get 2 incoming calls before the next receives busy, and so on.
Held and active calls use a CA button, parked calls doesn't.

Repeat. You can transfer calls without needing an available call appearance button. The only caveat is that you can only transfer to key that stores a pre-existing number (user, group, dial direct, ... (I didn't have time to test them all) or via contacts/call history button.
