Interesting questions:

The BST door phone says the button lights up. I am installing one for the first time.

If the button lights up my question is why does the sets not have a back light on the displays on for example the 7310's and 7316's?

Thanks

i have installed many doorphones and i don't recall the button lighting up...but i may not of been paying good attn...

The install manual says that it lights up. I will check at night after I install it. I could be real faint.

Any reason the displays do not have a back light?

No one probably knows why, but I have a couple ideas.

First of all, The door phone is not actually made by Nortel, but a company called Algo Solutions (actually..... I think they make many of nortel products. I know that they make the handsets) and maybe they just thought of it when nortel didn't.

Second, it COULD be that the door phone consumes less power than the nortel phones (as it doesn't have tons of buttons, LCDs and whatnot) and there is enough power to provide a light.

My third (and most likely) is they realized that the door phone was intended outside, where it can be dark / night time and providing a light made sense..... wheras nortel phones are always intended to be used indoors, where you will usually find indoor light available.

I really don't know... but those were my ideas. If you wanted the backlight, you could always upgrade to a BCM and a couple 1140e's..... but that seems like a lot of effort just for a backlight ;)

Thanks! Hey by the way. I installed a RAD. Never really needed to use one in any of my systems before.

Do you have a link for the Nortel software that I need to dial up and logon?

I have set a PW for the RAD and the baud is 9600 so all that is ready to go and it Auto Answers.

Thanks!

Installed the Door Phone just fine. Followed the inst. that came with the unit for programming.

Is there another way to allow several sets to ring showing "DOOR" without using Answer DN? THe problem for this client is that using ADN makes their sets rings for all calls and not just for when the Door Phone rings.

Make the door phone dial a phantom DN that is on the system, but with no phone attached then put the answer DN of the Phantom on the phones so the phones will only ring when the phantom rings. make sure the FWD no answer does not conflict with the door phones ring cycle.

Good suggestion.

I thought that a DN that does not have a set connected and working will eventually deactivate itself after a period of time?

When I did this the sets now seem to have taken over a button that was assigned to Handsfree Intercom.

I thought that just one of the existing IC lines would ring. When I doa button inquary it now shows the Ext. of the DN that I am using for the Answer DN feature number on that button.

Must a button be used up when Answer DN is used for a set?

Are you saying that the new answer dn is appearing where the HF key is? It always or should always default to the key above your I/C's and yes a answer key has to have a button you can make it appear only or appear n ring no ring only like a HG DN...

Yes, this is what key it is appearing on. I am not sure what an "HG DN" is?

I would prefer not to use up a key since this door phone will not be used often.

Any options/ How about DRT to all sets?

Ok, I get it. Hunt Group. Can I set up something that will only allow the call to Ring and not use up a button?

HG means hunt group...you can assign your call dn as a hunt group dn and then add the exts. that you want to ring in that group which will not require a key if you make it ring only to the i/c.

Can you provide me with instructions for setting up a HG that would work with this Door Phone set up?

Thanks!

go into programming f**config-pswd
hit next til you see system programming
hit show then you should see hunt groups(if ur software has HG's) hit show again then you should see HG with a dn next to it show that then you'll see add members add the phones here that you want the doorphone to ring to after that you can leave the rest pretty much default you don't need to add any lns. and a HG defaults as broadcast ring which is what you want...just put a name on it ie DOOR...you need to add that HG DN that you added your exts. to as your call dn and you should be good...

good luck
