I have a Ultra5 ,that not will boot at all.
I get the following error message:

Boot device: disk:a File and args:
Boot: cannot find misc/sparcv9/krtld
Boot: error loading interpreter (misc/sparcv9/krtld)
Elf64 read error.
Boot failed
Enter filename [/platform/sun4u/kernel/sparcv9/unix]:

Is this because of a hardware error or....?

Hi
There might be something wrong with your boot settings
somewhere - because the reference to misc/sparcv9/krtld
is wrong. krtld resides in misc, so should read:
misc/krtld. Have you tried doing an interactive boot from
the prom, i.e.
boot -a
then seeing what the default values are for loading the
kernel etc.
HTH.
