BM12 Flashes on incoming calls

I have BM12 on a 9508. When there is an incoming (Outside Line) call. All lights on the BM12 Flash. I do not recall this being normal. All of the buttons are programmed "User". None of the exts are set to ring (and they do not).
 
Does that outside line have a ICR to a Hunt group with all the extensions on BM12 in it?

 
Based on what you are describing you have line appearances. Even when the lines are set to not ring the user button will still flash. The fix is to NOT use line appearances. This is one of many issues you will encounter using them.

The truth is just an excuse for lack of imagination.
 
Indeed the fix for many issues is the just not use Line Appearances. I wish Avaya would just take them away so that our sales people would stop telling customers that the IPO will work just like their key system.

I agree. Avaya removing the line appearances is the only way it would stop people from using them... altho occasionally they are nice simply for diagnostic tool.

Are the other calls set to ring on the same line? That would make the blf flash.
 
Yes, All the sets have line appearances for the 3 POTS lines. The only set that is set to ring is the is the Attendants 9508 with the BM12. What would one do instead of having the line appearances? Just have Appearances and a ICR with the Attendant in it. I removed that because both the Line Appearance and the Appearance buttons would both Flash at the same time. Thanks for all the responses.
 
Yes, get rid of the line appearances and just use call appearances. Using line appearances severely cripples the IPO. It wasn't meant to be a key system, its a PBX. Point the line group(s) to a hunt group and add the phones that should ring as members of the group. Or you could point it to an attendant if you wanted.

If you're going to be the person managing the IP Office, I strongly suggest either getting yourself some Avaya training or hire a qualified business partner to help you.
 
Thank you all for your responses. Especially you DaIPOTek, I truly appreciate your candor. I actually have had some Avaya training but did not think very much of the course. I've learned more from this forum than I ever did in class. I'll be posting another post on where folks have gotten quality training.

Which is really sad but it is a hard truth. This is logicall as the training is build by "theoretical" engineers who only have the documents to go on and never installed a system at customers premise.
I (as a skilled installing and trouble shooting engineer) used to be a AVAYA certified trainer and these "theoretical" engineers once join a training I lead.
After the training they told me they learned more about IP Office as they did when they got trained by AVAYA emloyeed trainers.
Still AVAYA has left that path and now only offer trainings based on the manuals, no input from the real world which you will find here.

The big problem with all training courses is they only tell you how things work, they never tell you how things break!

To re enforce the instruction form DaIPOtec there is a FAQ I wrote that gives full details on the correct way to use Line Appearance keys. I am confident that it is the shortest FAQ ever written :)
