hi guys

i work in a hospital and in the psychiatry ward there is a phone for the patients and they keep calling 911 for the hell of it .....

how can i block 911 calls on just that phone

i have an option 61 release 25

thanks a lot

What is the purpose of this phone?

This is a Signature and not part of the answer, it appears on every reply.

This is an Analogy so don't take it personally as some have.

Why change the engine if all you need is to change the spark plugs.

You might want the legal dept of your hospital to look at the situation before you block 911 from ANY phone. if a patient dies, and they find out another patient tried to call 911 to get help and couldn't because it was blocked, then you open up the possiblity of a lawsuit.

Depending what you need the phone for, you could make it a Hotline that ring only to the operator.

I have two opposite reactions to this issue. The first would be the same as JohnThePhoneGuy, but the first thing I'd do is pull out the phone and use the argument that the patient phone is a privledge, not a right, and there are consequences for having their fun.

On the other hand, has a 911 blocker for a little over $50. Says it can redirect 911 calls to another number, like an internal extension. Note I don't have one of these, but I do buy telecom stuff on a semi-frequent basis from him.

if you have e911 package you could do the same thing.

Better yet find out who is doing this and turn their name over to the police. Making a prank 911 call is a crime in most states. Make an example of one person and I can absolutely promise that this kind of stuff will come to an end.

This is a NUT House and they aren't responsible for there actions.

I have a question for the MVP's that have chime'd in
all good answer's as I work in a hospital too with bout 9000 users.Fortunantly our NUT BALL's are in anoter facility but if they in fact's are NUT's i would think there also pretty smart cause don't you have to dial 9 first???

They are cognizant enough or they wouldn't be enjoying it now would they?

The ONE AND ONLY thing that overrides ESA dialing is PreTranslation. You can build an XLST table and then assign that to the phone. This can effectively block E911 for this device.

This is a common implementation that is used in facilities such as yours.

yes they do have to dial 9 before to dial out but 911 is the only number that the administrator wants me to block they do no want to completely block access for them to dial out just 9911

Your what is blocked by Bell canada?

sounds like Bell Canada is the Maint provider and has locked you out of LD90 and probably others. I would tell them that you want unrestricted access to your PBX

ld 90 we do not have access to it i do not have the password for that
ins't it in ld 90 that i have to go into to block ougoing 911 calls ??

This all depends on the way you have ESA configured (if at all) in your system. If configured properly, ESA calls override any set restrictions. The Pre-Translation Feature is fully documented in the NTPs on how to implement. Basically the XLST is a speed call list that is used for number translation and is applied to each individual TN at the XLST prompt.

This is a powerful feature that has many uses, but is the only thing that can properly block a 911 call from a phone as pre-translation occurs before anything else in the difit collection phase. You would need access to LD 18 to provision the XLST. Again, see the NTP for a complete task list on using this feature.

If your need to block 911 for one phone, personally I'd do KISS (Keep It Simple S****) and just fix one phone rather than play around with pre-translation and possibly screwing up the other 99 percent of my phones.
