Block incoming call 2

We have a fax machine that is calling our business but it's sending a caller id that isn't it's own. I've tried to get the phone company to block the number but they won't do it without a police complaint on file. So, I was wondering if there was a way to check the iclid and if it matches then drop the call. I'm thinking it's done in VMPro with the conditions editor but I'm having a time trying to figure out how to test the iclid.

Set up an incoming route tomath the number. You can route it any you desire after that. You can route it to voice mail and disconnect or to an extension that does not exist.

If it is providing ICLID with the call, then you can block using an Incoming Call Route match. Enter the ICLID in the Incoming Number field. Create a short code set to Busy and use that as the destination (unless anyone knows of a method to drop the call). Save letting the fax waste a voicemail channel.

Sizbut. wouldn't the shortcode for "Cancel or Deny" accomplish dropping the call?

I suggest keeping the call active as long as possible, the caller will stop calling then. If you tie up there line for three days, they stop calling back.
Also, if you have a teloc auto call back feature(*69 here), using that to call back with your fax machine and sending a roll of paper through your fax machine sending outbound would probably discourage them from faxing back.

Not a very productive use of time and resources. Plus, I don't think the nice little old lady who's number is being falsely send as the caller ID would appreciate any retalliation.

No worries, it's been successfully routed to "Cancel or Deny". The can call busy signals all day long if they like now, it won't waste our employees time anymore

I had a customer do this to a spam faxer. I would not consider doing that to any nice old ladies. Or tell the customer how to do it, if it was a nice old lady. Oh, btw, they stopped getting 300 spam faxes per month after 4 hours of return faxes.

Yeah, that's a different situation altogether. I honestly think someone has a wrong number programmed into their machine and haven't bothered to look into why the faxes are failing. No idea how it's sending a wrong caller id though and the phone company is unwilling to look into it.

If it is genuinly accidental you could try transfering/routing the call to a real fax machine to identify the sender.
(even a spam fax trying to sell somthing will have a means to contcact them so they can make a sale, but it may be a premium rate number :-( )
