Howdy,

We're rolling IPO 500 (v 4.2) with 4 vcm's in place. It appears that I need to add additional VCM's in order to get more outgoing/incoming calls to the POTS line we're connected to. I'm looking at ~$400 for upgrading the VCM from 4 to 8 but read somewhere that Avaya is recommending just upgrading to IPO v 6.0 instead of buying the licenses.

Any idea what the upgrade cost would be? My inclination is to just buy the VCM license and not monkey around with the system by upgrading it to 6.0 (still shy on pulling the trigger to v. 5)

Thanks for any suggestions you may have.

Have a great day!

chris

The upgrade to R6 is around $200 I believe, and will give you more features but as you know also R6 bugs, look at the caveat site to decide if it's worth risking that or not :)

I reckon upgrade to r6. waste of money buying licences for VCM really.

How many IP handsets do you have? thats the key really here.

HSM is correct it is the number of IP handsets that is the deciding factor.

V6.0 no longer licences channels (in theory all 32 will be active) but it licences handsets

1 VCM channel licence = 3 IP handset licences so in default you would get 12 IP handsets instead of 4 channels

The license for 32 or less extensions is $99 and if you have 33 or more extensions then it is $199

honey, i fried the IP Office !!!

Sarcasm, it's only one of the services I offer.

Also be aware Delta server and CCC do not work with R6, just in case you use those :)

Thanks Everyone!

This forum is a treasure trove of information that I can't usually find by googling and I'm grateful for the help.

So, to recap, we're a small office with around 26 IP Phones but we have a vacant digital card taking an additional 8 extensions (so, we're over 32 extensions). But for $200, I can upgrade the system as opposed to paying ~$400 for a 4 VCM license?

Can one upgrade from 4.2 to 6.0 or do I need to take baby steps by upgrading to 5.0 and then to 6.0. Also, how long does the upgrade normally take for those who have done it (meaning do I do it one night while the office is closed or over the weekend).

Lastly, what is the caveats page that was referenced earlier as I definitely want to read that to know what I'm getting myself into.

Thanks again.

Have a great day!

chris

upgrade can be done in one step as you don't have any external modules. should take about 10 minutes in reality but i would allow an hour for coffee and messing about.

caveats are just a list of outstanding bugs but if you don't have an SSO loin you won't be able to get to it.

fo shizzle ma nizzle.

You'll also need 12 additional IP-endpoint licences (24IPPhones -12virtual ipendpoint licenses from VCM channel migration = 12) on top of the upgrade licence.

You can go straight from 4.2 to 6 once you have all the licenses you need.

check out the R6.0(14) tech bulletin.
You'll need the R6 license and 14 Avaya endpoint licenses (might want to check your maths Esc!!!). You might as well 3 x 5 Avaya Endpoint licenses. probably cheaper than 14. You'll need to contact your BP for these licenses.

Uk RRP for this kit is about £790
extra 4 VCM license is about £380

Avaya are making the 8/16/28/60 VCM licenses end of sale.

If buy the 4 VCM license now and you go to R6 in the future you'll have 8 VCM's that will transform into 24 Avaya Endpoints on R6 in the future.

Avaya's maths is worse, they touted R6 as a real money saver when it comes to using IP phones :)

That was not a maths error it was a typo
it should read "real money SPINNER"

Does anyone know if it includes the included VCM licenses that came with the module. I'm guessing it doesn't, but wanted to make sure how many IP End Point licenses i needed.

The four "free" channels that come with the VCM32/64 gets converted to 12 free IP ENDPOINT licences.

wow impressive i figured it would only do it on purchased licenses. thanx for the info

No problem at all. Remember that the 10 VCM channels on the combo card aren't provided with ANY free IP ENDPOINT licences though.
