BCM50 redirect calls to one extension to an external line 1

I'm trying to see if I can get calls to an extension to be forwarded to an external number. Note, I've tried various ways of FEATURE 84 and the all important FEATURE #84 (helpful when all calls to the office are being redirected to your cell phone). Here are the steps that I'm going through:

1) FEATURE 84
2) select a line out (I just picked a random one to use as the outbound line)
3) Enter in the external line access digit (9) and the phone number to forward to
4) After hitting OK, I get a message that says Select Lines. Here is where I have a problem. I can't select an extension (it just dials that extension if I try). I can only select one of the main incoming lines/numbers (or all of them and frantically key in FEATURE #84).

So, is it possible to forward calls to a particular extension to an external number (kind of like FEATURE 4 with an external number instead of another extension)?

Thanks!

Yes you can. Under capibilities you have to select allow redirect for that user. Then use feature 4 then 9xxxxxxxxxx ok. Make sure you have a routing table setup so it knows how to treat 9 when it is dialed. Also if you have analog trunks it will have sound quality issues.

Thank you for the reply. I have verified that the user (me for the purposes of testing) has "Allow redirect" checked in Capabilities. When I try FEATURE 4, as soon as I hit 9 I get an error tone and the message "Invalid Number". Which leads me to think that the next part of your message might lead me to my problem ("Make sure you have a routing table setup so it knows how to treat 9 when it is dialed"). I did some quick googling, and I'm not seeing anything relevant. Could you please point me in the right direction? Is this accessed in CallPilot Mgr or Business Element Mgr (or somewhere else)? Thank you so much!

It's in Element Mgr--Dialing Plan--Routing--Destination Tab and make sure 9 is in there then tell it what route you are using

Thank you again for your reply! I added 9 in as a destination code. Now, I can setup redirect using FEATURE 4, but rather than just 9xxxxxxxx, I had to enter 99xxxxxxxxx (put here to save the next person with this issue a few minutes). Not sure why, but it works...and that is good enough for me!

Thank you so much for your assistance on this! I am sending you my allocation of internets for the day (I had a couple extra since my coworkers now think I'm some kind of phone genius!).

Just as a follow-up to this. Our GM got a call from our phone company today, and apparently someone hacked our phone system and utilized this feature (routing to an external number) to call Afghanistan a bunch over the weekend. I'm now disabling this functionality, and will be further locking down our phone system. Use this functionality at your own risk...

You can't forward a phone remotly it has to be set on site. What is happening is outdial on the Class Of service for the mailboxes, this needs to be disabled. This is where you get the message on a MB and dial 7 and it dials back out to a number. Hackers dial in and change or set up this in mailboxes ,change the number dial back in and get the MB and press 7 and it dials the number usually overseas.
Google Toll Fraud.

Thank you for the reply and clarification! To hopefully save others time in the BCM50 Admin guide: In CallPilot Mgr --> Mailbox Administration --> click "Change" next to a particular Subscriber Mailbox (will need to go through all of them). Change the Outdial Type dropdown to "None" (you'll also have to clear the line/pool # value if there is one). There may be an easier way, but this way worked for me.

To be safe, I also changed from a minimum 4 digit vm passcode requirement to a minimum of 6 digits, and disabled external forwarding.

TIL about Toll Fraud...the hard way...

Thanks, again, for the guidance!
