working on a Nortel IP phone, they have a BCM450. They have replaced a broken phone with a new one. I have put the proper IP addresses in but the switch is still recognizing the mac address of the of the old phone to that extension. Once i log into the BCM450 where do i go to disable the old phone and add the new one?

Resources/Telephony resources/ IpSets.
Deregister the old set.

Thank you for the help, i am logged in and where you said to go. Unfortunately that line is grayed and will not allow me to disable the device? where do should i go to fix that?

If you have ip& application sets highlighted then lower half of page their is a tab called ip terminal details click on that show list of ip phones and under that 3 options one is deregister highlight phone in question then click the deregister
tab then set up your phone with that dn.

I think that whoever did the programming gave them the lowest level password because there is nothing showing up in the lower half when i highlight it. In the upper half it shows that there are two active ip sets. I am trying to find out who would know that. Thanks for all the help.

I think you are under the wrong module type it is not sets but ip & application sets you need to be under

Go where Cook told you to. It's under IP Sets.

In the lower screen, select IP Terminal Details. Find the DN you want and click on it. The three options at the bottom screen will come alive, Select deregister. You can then assign the DN to the new set in the usual manner.

I appreciate the help, i will have to go back tomorrow and i will give it another shot.

ok, fellas.. I am back in the switch.. I went to where cook told me to go, i have clicked on the tabs that have been mentioned but it still is not allowing me to make any changes. i went to resources then telephony resources i have highlighted the row with ip sets it is grayed and nothing shows up in the bottom half, the disable and enable buttons are both grayed out. I then highlighted applications and the same thing is happening. I then went to application resources and found under applications i found ip sets and highlighted that and it is also grayed out and will not allow me to click on details for application.

Upgrade your Element Manager from the BCM you're connected to. What you're describing is s symptom of an outdated version of EM. The latest version is Avaya 62.0.5. You'll get that if the system is patched current. If it isn't, you will have whatever the version is on the box.

The procedure I detailed above is correct. I'm sitting in front of one right now and verified it just to be sure.

I appreciate all the help, i have downloaded the new EM, and will be going back this morning to see how it goes. This has been a learning experience i mostly get called out on NEC equipment and have had no hands on with the BCM450 and very little with the BCM50. I will give you all a heads up if this goes well. Thanks again.

ok that was the problem, although i can dial extensions in the local office and also make calls out, the thing is when i dial the a extension at the distant office the connection is there, but unable to hear. I tried calling from the other ip phone in the same office and it went through and could talk..where do i need to go to fix this?
