Hi

I normally work CS1k but was sent to a BCM450.

It has a Fiber expansion card in slot 3 of the main unit. (No expmansion)

There are 5 digital SM and 2 ASM. The 2 ASM are connected to port 6 on the FEM

The fiber from port 6 goes to the first ASM and then it is daisy chained to the second ASM.

The ASM has been working but as of 2 days ago it stopped.

I have rebooted the ASM's, and also rebooted the BCM450.

In the module status it just says" enabling" but does not come up.

Any ideas?

Try disabling then re-enabling the ASM.

Try disconnecting both ASMs and connecting each ASM one at a time.

Try another fiber cable.

Try a different connector on the FEM.

BCMFiftyfan, I tried everything you said and it still says "enabling".
All the other ports on the FEM are being used by Digital station modules, so I can' change it.

vtphoneguy. yes both are down, and I have tried both individually with different fibre cables.
The second one was not programmed it seems, as I only saw 8 units, 0n the first module.

I have a new unit coming today, hopefully it will work, but it doesn't seem like a hardware issue.

There are no alarms relating to the asm's.

If neither module is working, I'm guessing that the FEM port is bad.

Ok, that may be it.

To change it,do I just shut down, change the fem and boot back up?

Does the programming reside in the BCM450 or is the fem a smart device that will need to be reprogrammed?

Is there an NT number for the 6 port fem and where would it be?

Would a reseat of the fem maybe clear it?

You could certainly try to re-seat the card.
If you swap the FEM, just make sure the dip switches on the replacement module are set the same as the old FEM.

Thanks! Will give it a try tomorrow if I get the parts and will let you know!

Ok, well I re-seated and then changed the FEM and still the same!

The only thing I haven't done is changed the asm module itself.

Will try that when I can get my hands on one.

Any other thoughts?

Remove the 25 pair amphenol cable from the ASM then cycle power to the BCM after disabling and re-enabling the ASM. Do this to each ASM separately.

Connect a test amphenol cable to the ASM and check the ASM ports with your buttset for dial tone and functionality even if it says "enabling". Do this to each ASM separately.

Changed the ASM and it works!

The green lights on the old modules were flashing and the new one came on steady!

Thanks for all the help.

It still says "Enabling" in the status.

Go figure!
