I need help with some input from the expert as to what happened...we recently got a BCM200 ver. 3.5 two years ago ....about one year ago the BCM lost all IP connection to IP phones and we can not access via Web interface...so they replace the BFT to another one. Now we are experiencing the same issues again...no IP phones...no Web access and no Telnet...no Voicemail....the regular digital phone is working fine. I checked the BFT but no bad looking caps...they seems ok. The front LED row is blinking constantly most of them....

Help! Can someone give me some pointer as to what happened...? The vendor is dogging responsibility in servicing and support the system... Rightnow we are very very disappointed in the system....this should not be happenning... the system is not reliable as it should be... Some other vendor suggesting us to upgrade to ver. 4.0 with the new BCM200 ...but the cost is just toooo much for us to afford that at the moment...beside with this kind of reliablity issues... we really do not have any more faith on upgrading at all.

Please give me some input as to what might causing this issues.

What color are the Caps in the BFT ?
Green BAD, Blue GOOD.
If they are Green, Nortel will replace it free, but the Vendor may charge you for labor.

This is an Analogy so don't take it personally as some have.

Why change the engine if all you need is to change the spark plugs.

does this happen alot of is this the 1st time since a year ago? have you rebooted the BCM yet to see if it resolved some issues. A upgrade isn't a bad idea either you could take it to at least 3.7 also is your system currently patched?

First plan is reboot yesterday. If that doesn't fix it, your hardrive is bad. Very unusual, I've only seen one go bad. If you had a BCM 400, you could have redundancy.

Shutdown the system completely and reboot....same thing! Rightnow looking like we got a junk system from our vendor...this is very disappointed...they really don't want anything to do with the system claiming that it is over the warranty and have no replacement....refer us to some other vendor that want to charge us for a new 4.0 with new hardware for thousands more. We should have go with someone else...or may be Cisco.

Is the BCM50 reliable? May be we should down grade to something more reliable......reliability is the key for these system.....damm...my junk 12 years old computer still running if I turn them on rightnow....but this POS system dead in 1 year...I check the capacitors...they are good.

Replace hardrive. Not that difficult, you'll just have to reprogram Vmail if not backed up off the system.

Make sure your BFT is a NTAB9970 or NTAB9874 with a MFG Date of 200512 or greater. First batch of BFT replacements from Nortel were no good, they would work for 6 months then go into a flashing state. Go to eBay and get yourself a new BFT, no need to buy a new system

The BCM is a very good system, but it's your Vendor that Sucks.

Your saying the CAPS where Blue?

Anyone here know a really good vendor in the southern California...Newport Beach area or the surrounding? Let me know....

Also...I asked someone here and they told me that I would need to replace a new MSC card if I would upgrade to 4.0 from 3.5 and entirely new Key codes for everything.... is that true...

The answer to your first question is Integrated Technology in Orange. I worked there for 7 years, ask for Steve Miller. Tell him Jeff Lindblom sent you.

The answer to your 2nd question is, No. You have to purchase the 4.0 upgrade, which comes with a keycode that will move all your existing keycodes to the Linux model. You do not need a new MSC card.

I hate to ask again, but "I check the capacitors...they are good." does that mean they are BLUE?

Plug a monitor into the bcm then you can tell what it is doing. If it boots up and says missing file then you have a hard drive issue. If you have the blue caps then the bft is probably ok.

Ok...the BFT is Good...! I plug the monitor in the system and found out that the hard drive is BAD...is there any place that I can get a CD image of the 3.7 NT? or I might have to purchase one? Can I just use any hard drive and restore the 3.7 file on to it or do I have to use the exact drive like the one that is dead?

I have a images email and I will help out.
