I got a BCM 1000, BCM 2.5 that is back from repair, and sat on the shelf
* Wants to upgrade it to 3.7
* Status light was flashing... not recognizing MSC card.
* Could not get into telehpony programming..Got the hard drive replaced so that I can upgrade..already been upgraded to 20 GB hard drive, and the PEC cards are PEC-3's
Now cannot get into the system to program at all...I get blue screen and 8 Dots that is it.The MSC Service is starting... the VOICE MSC Service Service could not be started.A service Specific Error occured: 85. MSC Card is listing as BLANK in the menu system. Don't know what to do anymore..Any suggestions..

Your supposed to get the blue screen, you shouldn't be there. Use the serial port to enter the initialize menu and then load the MSC card. Unless your a supper tech on the BCM you shouldn't be using a monitor as there is nothing there except the NT OS and it has nothing to do with the telephony part.

That is one of my problems...I am in the serial port. I only seem to be able to get in thru hyperterminal. I tried to get in thru element manager and can't get anything going. That is where the blue screen is coming from. I have it setup correctly because I can take another system and plug it in side by side and get in just fine. But I will get into thru hyperterminal and try what you said.

How did you upgrade the 8gb HD to a 20gb HD without running a software upgrade to 3.01? The HD swap is part of that step.

We got that done before this..The upgrade was a month ago. However we are now at this point...The upgrade prior has nothing to do with this point where I am at. Thanks

Also we are still sitting at 2.5 and want to upgrade to 3.0

Sounds like you need to run a universal profile to force the MSC to upload from your HD. If that takes, you should be okay to continue your upgrade path.

Now that sounds like a plan. But we just got the bad boy to do an upload and it was up. But then we went to the whse and came back it crashed and the status lights are just flashing. I would like to say I got a bad MSC card but I don't want to give up that easy. I cant even see it in the system anymore.

I might suspect your PEC's then.

Try it with 4 PEC 1s or only 1 PEC 3 then.

Ok..Cuz we got new PEC cards as well. PEC-3..But that is something else again to look at. I would like to drop it off the workbench and get a new one.

Maybe were talking apple and oranges here. are you attaching a monitor to the monitor port on the BCM? If you are, don't as there isn't any thing you can see there. Use a PC to connect to the BCM with Hyperterm and you should be able to login using the Default passworgs.

Can't do a universal profile in release 2.5 - only in 3.0 and higher. Might want to try going into the upload menu and force a download to the MSC - kind of the same thing as a universal profile, but it'll wipe out any programming.

My recommendation is to replace the motherboard (PW810) with a FRU from Nortel. After you power up run the MSC replacement procedure from the Main Menu:Main Menu
7. Command Line
f:
cd f:\program files\nortel networks\voice platform <enter>
mscoff.bat<enter>
sc config voicemscservoice start= auto<enter>
exit

Main Menu
8. Restart the system
At the restart [A,R] prompt, type R, then enter<enter>

Main Menu
1. Platform Initialization Menu
-----
2. Upload the Etiquette core load to the MSC
--When the upload completes, you're prompted to press any key
at the (Initialization menu) 1. Initialize Menu (press1)
Initialize Menu
2. Set service startup to Auto
3. Type M <enter>
4. Type 8 (Restart System), then press <enter>
5. At the restart[A,R] prompt, type R, then press<enter>

6. You're now ready to restore the system to operation.

Got to BRU and restore VOICE only!

If you still have problems, send switch to the bone yard...

The board replacement was free until the End of the year DEC 2005, now it costs aboue $500 to repair.

WELL I WILL GIVE IT A TRY...I AM OUT OF IDEAS NOW. THEY ARE PLANNING ON GETTING A REPLACEMENT AND WE HAVE CALLED NORTEL AND SEEING WHAT WE CAN DO. THX
