Greetings all,

After forum searching for about 2 hours, I believe our PEC cards have gone bad. It started when trying to access voicemail one day the phones gave the error "Resource Unavailable" (or something similar). I rebooted the system and now I can not gain access to the system. Trying to access voicemail now gives the error "Inactive feature". F**266344 gives "feature timeout". Lan1/Lan2 do not work(system defined IP and default ips do not ping) and also serial connection does not work. Capacitors are blue on the BFT and do not look bad(no leaking or signs of burn) yet LED status lights on the front of the system continue to blink indicating system trouble.

Some members on the forum with similar issues replaced their PEC cards with success in solving the same issues I am having. Am I good to assume the same?

We have NTBB80AC REL 17 PEC cards. I can get REL 08 cards. Will replacing the REL 17 cards with the REL 08 cards be a compatibility issue? I do not have a recent backup of the system programming. Will replacing the PEC cards erase all system programming?

Thank you all for your time and help.

It's possible that your PEC card has failed, but what version is your BCM?. In my experience, it's usually the Hard Disk that has failed and I've had cases where the LAN ports had failed and Voicemail with a faulty hard disk.

Also the older NT versions were known to give problems.

All the best

If it's working, then leave it alone!.

Sorry meant to include it in post. It is version 3.7

My company inherited it from another company recently so we haven't really done anything to upgrade it and the company that the system resides at, didn't want to spend anything to upgrade it :)

If it is the hard drive, will all programming be erased if we replace it?

Thank you for your help!!

Yes it will. You will need to replace the drive, patch it current and reprogram it from scratch if you don't have a backup.

Once you do though, you will still have a system that was manufacturer discontinued years ago and would not be cost effective to upgrade it to the current hardware/software and the hard disk will still be the weak point.

There are options for replacement that can utilize some of your existing hardware though. You can put in an Avaya IP Ofiice with the Norstar set modules or an eMetrotel which is a direct replacemnt for the BCM. Cheaper and more flexible than the IP Office. It also uses your existing sets and can use any DSM modules that you have in the BCM.

gonna try PEC cards first since we don't have a current backup :(

Will the different REL be an issue? The current PEC cards in the system are REL 17 while the ones we can get are REL 08.

Replaced PEC cards, system is still down for voicemail. LAN/serial ports not working. Telephony programming still works.

Replaced hard drive (cloned existing one), still no voicemail. LAN/serial ports not working. Telephony programming still works.

Hooked a monitor to VGA port on phone system. Nothing shows on monitor on reboot. LAN/serial ports not working. Telephony programming still works.

Am I safe to assume BFT is bad?

Thanks for everyone's help!!

That would be my first guess/replacement and easiest to do.

The caps sometimes may not leak, they just look like they are ready to pop like popcorn at the top otherwise could be something else on the BFT not working.....if it is but you did swap everything else out.
