I've searched and searched but can't find a duplicate problem with anyone else.. So looking to see if anyone has encountered this.

I have a BCM 400 4.0 that I can not connect via Element Manager.

I can ping the IP, as well as get to web page interface.

I've tried on both Google Chrome as well as Internet Explorer.

I've tried un-installing Java and loading an older version.

I've tried un-installing Element Manager and installing it right off of this BCM itself - As well as downloading it again off a BCM 50 R6 I have.

I've tried 3 different hard drives and 3 different base function trays.

Green lights are all solid green except the alarm light which is solid red.

I have another BCM 400 4.0 that I can access just fine. Which I am going to try booting up and make sure I can still access just fine after un-installing and re-installing the above mentioned items.

Any suggestions??

Thanks for your help.

Check the Motherboard for any leaking capacitors and also take the time to clean it all out and reseat all the connections.

Also plug in a serial cable on the front of the BCM onto your computer at 9600 baud with a null modem adapter before you power it up again and capture the data.

You could also attach a mouse, keyboard, monitor etc onto the ports behind the bottom left grey cover which you will need to remove. Check your BIOS settings.

I seem to recall that at 4.0 the settings had to be a non Windows NT operating system as shown below.

I found that you can make 2 changes in the BCM BIOS settings to allow a R4.0 hard drive to boot up. Enter the BIOS, click on the Advanced tab and select Advanced OS Options. Select Installed OS and change this from Win2000 to Other. Go back to the Advanced tab and select Advanced HDD Options. Change Large Disk Access Mode from DOS to Other. Save your changes and you are set to go.

I wanted to give an update on this BCM now that I have had some time to mess with it.

I initially tried various hardware changes.. New BFT.. Multiple Drives.. New MSC PEC Cards.. Tried putting the whole tray into another known good chassis with same result.

So I booted it up and let it run for a while until I could log in and under ADMIN > UTILITIES > RESET > I did a WARM RESET with the FORCE MSC CORE DOWNLOAD option selected and now the unit seems to be working fine. I've gone through several reboots and power down and power ups and it comes up every time typically within a minute or 2 of the lights going solid.

I am going to keep and eye on it on my test bench.. but I thought this would be good info to share.

Just an FYI that this an older 3.x chassis that had been upgraded to a 4.0.
