I have a broadband connection which i share using a router (Dlink 704p)its not a wireless router. The computer is attached on it(i laptop and 2 desktops). How can i share folders with the other computer attached to the router? Thanks in advance
I have been setting up a wireless home network and could not get one of the pcs - XP Home SP2 - onto the network.
I have been getting the error message "Workgroup not accessible, you may not have permission to use this network resource" for ages and could not get this machine any further. I had searched many websites for help. I followed this link from Bill and worked through the suggestions. I discovered it mentioned pc-cillin as a possible cause, it came on my system disk. I uninstalled it and my problem was fixed instantly - I can now see all the machines on my wireless network.
Thought this information might be useful, and thank you for restoring my sanity.
I have had this issue over and over again with WinXP (especially home)
1. Make sure the firewall is turned off on all machines
2. Make sure you don't have a 3rd party firewall; if you do, you have to configure it for network traffic
3. Make sure the Computer Browser and Server service is started
4. Make sure you have an identicle account on all machines (same username and password) OR enable the guest account on all machines (not recommended)
4. Restart all computers
If you still can't connect from one machine to the other,
Go to your network connection, TCP/IP PROPERTIES>ADVANCED TAB>WINS check the ENABLE NETBIOS OVER TCP/IP radio button.
Try those suggestions (sorry for the duplicates everyone)
^ further to above, makes sure the COmputer Browser and Server services are started on ALL machines.
You may also have to check your node type with a ipconfig /all most times it is set to "Hybrid" though I have heard of issues when it gets set to "unknown". There is an MS knowledge base article about the various node types and how to change from one to another.
Basically your node type indicates how your machine locates others on the network (broadcast, etc)
