I have AVG Free Edition and I have it installed and running. But I want to put it on a CD-R for a backup copy.

My question is, what part of the file needs to go on the CD? Is it the Setup Installer or should I put the "already installed" files on the CD????

Because last time, I put the installer on the CD and when I needed to install AVG onto my system it showed that the last update for definitions was on December 23, 2003. And the download took for ever and ever.

So how could I copy AVG onto that CD-R for backup purposes??

Copy the installer file, a text file with your serial number for installation purposes, plus the latest update to 516 from

and the latest update to 711, from the same page:

After that, you will need to get the latest definitions whenever you install it, because these will be out of date as soon as the product is installed. Method is:

1. Install AVG. Select No to run automatic update and reboot to initiate the software.
2. Copy the update to 516 to the UPDATE directory in the folder.
3. Right click the AVG icon in the system tray and choose Start AVG Antivirus. This will install the AVG update. Reboot the PC.
4. Copy the latest update into the folder and repeat step 3. This will install the latest updates as of the day you burned the CD.
5. Right click the AVG system tray icon and open the AVG Control Center. Use the Update tab to initiate the latest data file download to bring it right up to date.

You may periodically want to update the data files to newer versions and burn a new CD in order to minimise the amount of time spent downloading the latest updates.

Thanks great info there.

I already have AVG install on my system and plus I already have the file (u616d0xc.bin). Is there another file that I have to download?

Once this file (u616doxc.bin) is seen in the Update Folder, do I copy it on a CD-R along with the Installer which is (avg6555fu_free.exe)????

Like I said, AVG is already running on my system, but I would like to have a copy of it on a CD-R.

Great information. good work.

I cant locate the update for 711. Which file name is the update 711? I already have the file u616doxc.bin

On number 1 you said to install AVG which I already have up and running.

Please give more detailed explaination please.

At the moment it is u616d0xc.bin, but this filename may change.
Remember that you need d6032lhj.bin to bring it up to 516, which must be applied first because u616d0xc needs a minimum of 516 to run. In version 516, as the site says, the engine was changed to use a smaller update format to reduce download time.

Because viruses emerge so rapidly, any CD-R that you burn with this information will be out of date within a week and useless after a month without any further updates, which is why I included step 5 to bring down the very latest updates.

So once I download d6032lhj.bin do I just put this in the UPDATE folder section of AVG6 along with the u616d0xv file?

And once thats done do I need to re-install AVG or what do I do from there?

The Installer file name is this right?

avg6555fu_free.exe

and I have one that says

SETUP.EXE

When I installed AVG, I used avg6555fu_free.exe

d6032lhj.bin must be installed first, then u616d0xv.

Please follow my instructions in my earlier post. The d6032lhj.bin should be used in step 2, and u616d0xv.bin in step 4.

You cannot install the later one until the earlier one is running because it makes changes to the AVG update engine.

So basically I just have to burn the avg6555fu_free.exe on the CD, right?

Ok, Im starting from scratch Im downloading AVG from there site.

And after that I will transfer the two files into the Update Folder.

And then after that what should I do and when do I copy it to the CD?

Get all 3 files, plus put a text file with your AVG serial number on (otherwise when you need to install it, you won't be able to find it) and burn them all at the same time, maybe with a copy of these instructions also in a text file.
