hi, i have an ip500 with about 40 users connected via analog phones. We have more than 40 users that work at our office but they dont all work on the same day. I want to have an extension or user profile setup for each staff member and force them to login with their user profile before being bale to make a call. That way i can see the correct user name in the smdr logs.

Im new to avaya and any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

You will have to hotdesk - but that's a little nasty on an alog phone. you might want to use it in conjunction with phone manager pro, or one-x portal, that way you can log into an extn with the user you log into phone manager with.

otherwise, its short codes.

We have one customer who does this.

We created a login shortcode of

#N;
Extn Login
N*N

We then set every user to force login and set their login code to match their extension number. Give them an idle time of 3600 seconds (to automatically log out any users overnight who forget to *36 before they go home).

Works great.

Thanks for the advice Pepp77 and hairlesssupportmonkey.
I will try what pepp77 suggested. But tell me though..Am i only permitted to have as much users as there are physical extensions available?? or can i have more?

Im pretty much a noob to this..but can you guys outline the steps to creating the extension logins for my existing avaya ip500.

My current setup has fixed extensions assigned to each staff. Once again any help is appreciated.

Thanks

in user settings go to Telephone and then Suprervisor settings, fill in the login code and you have a hotdesk user.
By default hotdesk users can logon on any phone dialing the following sequence : *35*extnnmbr*logincode#
logging off is don by dialling *36.
If all user have the same logincode then you could consider to dreate a shortcode like #xxx ( were xxx is fo a three digit phonenumber) Telephonenumber is *N*1234# were 1234 is the shared phone number.
Dialling #300 will login user 300, *36 will logoff user 300.
The phonenumers may have a different telephonenumber as the users, I would give each phone a unique non ddi number and create users with th same number, it will enabe to use the phone while no "real" user is logged on.
There is no real need to use any application if the users have no need for additional info like who is calling etcetera. Using a analog phone with a display and number recognition will do fine.
