Hello Gurus,

One of our customer has a requirement to integrate their Tyco MX fire alarm system with Avaya IP Office running on rel 8.1.

The specific requirement is that IPO should autodial 2 stations and play a notification call when there is any emergency alert from the fire alarm.

There will be a relay (C type) available from the Tyco MX system to integrate with Avaya IP Office.

Can someone please let me know whether this is feasible and what would be the solution for this integration.

Thanks in advance.

regards,
Rohan

To be honest i would get a certified system in between.
What you can do is use the AIWS and some IPDect phones (3725)
You will need the OAP AIWS (espa connection) for this.
It is not cheap but you do not mess with fire at any time.

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

I found an interesting document, however this is for relay output to control door as well as control external devices. I am seeking a similar solution where relay input can be fed to IPO and it dials respective stations in case of emergency situations.

Please refer to this link below;

IPO doesn't have relay input options. You have to use some kind of hardware in between the provided contact and IPO. It can be done mind of analogue extension that is able to dial a number of the contact is activated. A SIP or ISDN Endpoint can be an option as well.

Run away! Do not walk. Do not go calmly or orderly. Panic is best.

I realize that in theory it can and should work fine. I bet that it is much cheaper than the alternative, but you do not want to be in the middle of a fire alarm. Alarm people have separate notification systems. Fire inspectors (in the US) know those systems and prefer them. Certification will become an annual thorn in your side.

To add insult to injury, the alarm folks will point to the phone system for any and all issues on the fire system.

You don't want that pain.

Maybe I read this entirely different, but it looks like OP wants the alarm system to place a secondary alarm on the IPO along with a primary alarm directly to the alarm company.

The alarm company calls the man on duty, he shows up.
But the CEO get's it on the news, 20 sec after CNN calls, caught with his pants down.
Insurance covers the physical damage, but CEO has a bruised ego => Manhunt.

This is doable if there is a suitable output from the alarm, not in conflict with any laws. (mentioned above, SIP or regular interfaces).Just don't promise any calls in case of a fire, it's only a nice-to-have-thing.

(don't get me wrong, I dig your rant, fshaw [smile])

Kind regards

Gunnar

Thank you Gunnaro (Vendor), fshaw (Programmer) and derfloh (TechnicalUser) for your inputs.

As Gunnaro pointed it correctly, this requirement is only to call 2 numbers to notify them about fire alarm alert. It is not meant to call all the users for alerting, as it can be done via loudspeaker feed from the fire alarm system itself.
