Can someone provide a list of ports that need to be forwarded to get the 1616 phone working remotely? I am on the new 8.0.16 release. Phone says Discover and the Public IP on the screen.
Also, I can see the phone trying to login or lat least mention of that extension in monitor, but no luck yet.

Ping is on on the router that the IPO is on, and we set the h.323 extension up, and allowed remote extensions in the user profile.

Thanks,

Chaz

You can't do this with 1600 series handsets, needs to be 9600 and you need to set the user as a remote worker too, the ports are listed in the help files I believe :)

not sure all ports req on avaya knowledge base both physicall and hardware, I thought the only remote device on R8 is the new softphone that could be port forwarded through a router , however that said h.323 ports 1719-1720 are the ones for that protocol then on the system tab on the lan tab ish... its gives you the same ports rtp rtcp listed in knowledge base, would something like a pptp vpn between site and homeworker not be sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much easier.

By this i dont mean a vpn phone i mean two routers with one connected to lan/wan on ipo other at remote location simple vpn set up between the two , you will haave to statically assign the phones IP unless both routers support DHCP relay option 176/242 are your SSON,

Other than that i could be talking complete rubbish as ive not got through all the R8 release docs yet so good luck.

Thanks for the quick response. I thought the 1616s were h.323 and would work without a VPN in 8.0.16

1616 are H323 but they are not supported as NAT'd remote phones only 9600's are, having said that it wouldn't hurt to try, but you may find it is physically blocked in the system programming by Avaya :)

Ok. Thanks to both of you. I will try it on a 9630g then.

monty. 9600 phones supported in R8 as remote worker extension. No need for static IP, no need for DHCP relay, no VPN, no special firmware.

Just a license, tick a box in the users settings and hope the right ports are open between each end.

siz...post archived thanks for the feedback, anyone going to help me with my softphone issue im starting to feel lonley!!!!

One more question. I can power the 1616 with the 1151D1, but not the 9630G.

Does it only work with POE or the RJ45 to "round end" cable?

you need to use the cord that came with it with the rj45 on one end and the mini dc connector on the other and that plugs into the bottom of the phone.

Thank you. That is the answer I was looking for.

Got the 9630g powered up. It says Discover and the Public IP on the screen. Monitor shows that extension and my remote public IP communicating with the IPO.

It did ask for ext, and password, but no connection yet.

Extension has remote extension turned on, and user is set as power user, It is licensed for that. Whic turns on remote worker.

Ports 1718-1720 are forwarded to the address of the IPO.

Thanks,
Chaz

Did you forward the ports 49xxx till 5xxxx (see the system tab)
You need to forward those ports too.
Also the ipaddress must be pingable.
One of those 17 something ports must be TCP and the other one UDP.
What router are you using?

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

The router is a Linksys WRT310v2

Ports are forwarded and the IP is pingable. I did make one of the 17s TCP and the other UPD.

On a reboot the phoen will ask for the extensions and passcode, but then eventually goes back to "Discovery and the Public IP" or
"Discovery and Local IP of the IPO

And the phone does flash "Registering" before going to the Discover Mode.

When using a local IP Address on the lan port rather than public address I had to set the public address in the network topology or phone fails to register.

Doing that now as a test. Thanks.

That worked. That will be documented, as I have not seen that mentioned before. Thanks everyone.

I will test the quality of the calls once I get live lines on this IPO.
