We have an IPO 500 system setup where several of the users have DIDs assigned; however the users from their internal phones would like to dial the DID that is assigned to another users phone and when they attempt to do that, they receive a fast busy.

What do I need to change\add to make this work?

I know it can work as we have other systems where it is working but I can't figure out what was done.

Thanks

Lol I guess of they would like to make life harder

Creat short code

Code : (did)
Feature: dial
Telephone number: ext

That's a ridiculous request.
Do you realize that if you allow them to use the actual DID it will tie up one inbound and one outbound trunk?
Assuming phone calls = $$$$, you're using up the resources required for your customers to call.
This is why there are internal and external call paths.

Phoneguy610 provided a good solution.
It will allow the users to dial all those extra digits which will give them the illusion of using the DID numbers, but actual keep the call on an internal path.

SupportDude, thanks for the info and I did not think of it that way, but since they have unlimited local calling the $$$$ would not be an issue. And the system is connected to a PRI so they have 23 channels, but point well taken.

I have read this 3 times because i could not believe my eyes :)
How many digits does this DDI have?
If it is 7 or less then make there extension number the same as the DDI.
Problem solved :)

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

Seriously, why wouldn't they just call the extension of the person? Do the DID's match the last 3/4 of their extension? This just doesn't make sense and I think the client doesn't realize they can dial extensions internally.

It should still work though, as idiotic as it may be your either have not got the shortcodes configured to allow it (unlikely but possible) or the provider isn't allowing it.

But it is silly and you should just run over and punch the person in the face when they next ask about it :)

"No problem monkey socks

Just a note:::: I have had this problem also... However, i was doing this as a test when doing a cutover to another carrier.... The problem may be with the carrier... I don't know the whole situation is, but, some carriers will not allow you to dial yourself... And the carrier knew they were the problem... anyway, just a note if you wanted to check...

I encounter this issue everyday.

People not understanding that a phone system can span multiple sites (and countries), with internal 4 digit dialing. Sometimes, you just need to recognise that providing a technological solution to convert the 18 digits dialed to an internal extension number is easier than educating users - sad but true.

Easier to add a shortcode as suggested than argue the toss!

Take Care

I have always wished that my computer would be as easy to use as my telephone.
My wish has come true. I no longer know how to use my telephone.
