Avaya IP Office R9.0 Essential Speed Dial issue

My tech cannot make speed dialing work using a short code or directory. It works fine for traditional toll numbers, but not toll free. We replaced a Partner ACS and the customer has been using [feature] 600, 601, 602 etc. He created a short code *600 and entered the action as "Dial" and tried 91800NNNXXXX. The call will not complete. He then does *601 with action as "dial" and entered 91NPANNNXXXX and it works fine. We can dial the toll free number from the 9508 and all is well. Short code is not working for some reason. This is an essential edition with no other licenses. is a simple replacement of a Partner ACS. He also stated he entered the numbers in the "Directory" in Manager and it still will not call toll free. Can you help? It must be something simple.
 
do you have a specific entry in ars for 1800 calls?

91NPANNNXXXX as a telephone number? I dont get it, if it works from a phone what number do you dial?
If you enter exactly the same in the shortcode then it should work but don't forget to use 50:main as the outgoing line ID.
 
I think my tech made a simple mistake. He did not look at ARS when setting up. His question to me will be "why can I dial the number manually on the keypad?"

By the way, I worked for AT&T in the 1989-1991 timeframe. The jargon we use for area code was NPA. The Exchange was NXX. The line number was XXXX. Check it out here
 
That is typically US behaviour, sorry to say but the world is bigger as the US and we on the other end of the ocean have no knowledge of abbreviations used in the US.
 
Sorry, Intrigrant. In fact, the IP Office was developed in the UK. I am getting more comfortable with code instead of password. Our acronyms in the US can be terrible. It is a language by itself.
 
No problem, each country or area has its own language.
I live in the Netherands ( Europe ) and work in Belgium, it is only 90 Km away and we should speak the same language and we do but the naming of things can be totally different. Can be hilarious sometimes[smile] or embarrassing[blush].
 
Shouldn't the number NOT include the 9, since you're dialing it by the shortcode?

depends were the 9 is stripped off, some do that within the system shortcode and sent the to be send number to ARS and some strip it in ARS

Thanks, I will ask my tech to try these options. It should be simple enough.
 
Thank You all! My tech fixed issue with your help. Now the IP Office can use *600, *601 etc to perform system speed dial. It is one of the things you need to do to emulate the Avaya Partner ACS.
 
what was the fix?

The problem was two-fold. The client gave us several non-working phone numbers and my tech did not add 50:Main in the short code. The human error threw us off.
