Hello to everyone !

I recently acquired a used Avaya IP Office 500 V2 and the system came with no License. It came on version 8.1. I managed to connect to it by installing the correct version of IP Office and by changing its IP on the LAN.

I am really new to Avaya and I would like to make some questions in order to be able to start using it. I know that the system gets locked in the version the first call was made and without an upgrade license, it wont be able to work even If I buy a new V11 License and upgrade it to that. I don't really need R11 but I recently realised that currently Avaya does only sell licenses for R10 and R11. I also bought a new SD Card from Avaya (System SD 700479702) and before I start I want to replace the default SD that came with the system with my new one. Can somebody outline all the steps in the proper order ?

I do not understand how I am going to get the upgrade license, WITHOUT actually having a license already. Can somebody guide me ?

Also, in my country there is no support for Avaya, so I do not have the option to use a local distributor. Is it a good option to purchase a R11 License from here ? Link

Thank you, in advance.

Are you sure you haven't got any licences at all? They would come with Basic edition by default but no one likes that. What do you see in Manager or System Status?

Which modules do you installed as this would help to answer. A simple answer is that physical lines and extensions don't need a licence but IP ones do but there is more to it.

This isn't the place for step by step instructions so check for the installation guide on the IP Office Knowledgebase.

If you can export a cfg files from Manager the Business Partner can check your licensing options.

First of all a huge thanks for the quick answer ! I forgot to mention that UNDER LICENSE I actually have (1) with 12 Virtual IP Endpoints. I just checked inside the SD Card and under System-Backup I found a config.cfg file as well as a security.cfg. Are these the files you are referring to ? Do I only need one of these ? If not, how many cfg's ?

The modules that are currently installed are (700431778, 700417389, 700476013). My main and ONLY use with this IPO is I want to connect it to a PSTN line and use 8 Avaya 1616i IP Phones which I already own !

I don't think it would be Basic edition as you couldn't use IP Phones so if you are lucky you have an Essential edition.

Can you share a screenshot of your licences?

If you do have Essential edition you should be able to do what you want without any more licences.

The BP would need config.cfg for an upgrade but R11 may not be necessary unless you want the newer features and devices.

I guess your upgrade path is actually simply the purchase of the licenses you need

1 essential license and 8 IP endpoint licenses because Avaya doesn't you the virtual ones in R11 or 11.1 any more

All you need it the SD card number and if it not already starts with 11 in the front then you add that and you have your PLDS key the licenses will be issued to.

At one time Essential edition was the default but at 8.1 it should show in licences so you will need to upgrade.

Ah I see ! So I need to buy R11 license and just provide to my BP the config.cfg ?

Westi thank you so much for your answer ! I am aware that I need to provide the sd card number but my main question is how I am going to get the upgrade license ? The SD card number will give me the Essential edition License. But I think I also need an upgrade license ! Or not ?

no upgrade license needed as the PLDS licensing includes the version it is valid for.

You will get an essential license for R11 which is also good for R11.1

Oh, Thank you so much for helping to clear things up ! One more question if you can help, I tried to contact via Email with English Avaya Ip Office Direct Site to buy a License but I did not get an answer for more than 15 days ! Do I firstly need to buy one from the site Link and then they will contact me to provide them with the SD Card Number ? Is this how it works ? Thanks again !

I am not sure what they are, you can buy a license from any authorized Avaya Business Partner which you can find at the link below if you like to have one locally so that you can ring their door bell should anything go sideways :)

but theoretically you can buy a license from anywhere that sells them. Buyer beware if it is strictly an online business

I've not used that company in the UK that you mention but I am sure they are OK. You might want to look into the tax situation if ordering overseas.

Let us know how you get on.

Oh, Thank you so much for providing me the link with the official partners ! I was not aware that in my country there were a few Official Business Partners ! So now I almost have everything to start. I bought a new system SD Card from Avaya (System SD 700479702), so I will give them the 12 digit number and they will provide me with the PLDS.xml, right ? I will also prepare my new SD card with IP Office Manager Version 11 with R11 and then I will simply transfer the license into System-Primary and boot up the IPO ! Thank you for everything ! @ipohead I will inform you as I move on ! A huge thanks !

Also, can anyone tell me what is the easiest way to download the Admin Full Installer for Version 11 ? I can only find the AdminLite which is not the correct one for recreating a new SD Card For R11 ! Thank you all !

You need to log into the Avaya support website with an SSO login to access it.

If you send me an email on gmail that is 67 then my handle then I can send you a link that will work for a few hours
