Avaya CDR unanswered calls

What we are trying to achieve in the call logger is for our field staff members to call a specific DDI which does not get answered but logs that a call attempt took place. This essentially will be used as a login/logout tool so that the field agents can call a number as they start the job and call the number again to finish the job.
How can I make this show on the call log as only answered calls are showing at present?
Is the AES server required for this to work?
