What is the difference for the avaya 1616 and 1616I phones? I know the 1616 works fine on 4.2 (11) or higher, The 1616I needs 6.0 or higher. Why 6.0 or higher, what features do you gain in the 1616I phone? What does The I stand for? Thanks in advance!

if I am not mistaking then the 1616I is also for CM and has therefore different firmware for it and is basically a different phone in the same housing.

The 1608I, and 1616I will work on IP Office R5.2, I belive R5.22 or higher to be exact.
The 1608I, and 1616I have a nice white backlit display, versus dull green on the 1608, and 1616.

1) It is a L not I
2) L stands for Localized
3) It has a better and white display
4) It can show languages like siplified chinees and Korean
5) The L version works from 5.0.22 and up while the old one works from 4.2.11

It depends on which part of Avaya you speak to

I have documents that sate it is I for international, other documents refer to it as localized & manager displays it as an L

My cynical belief would be that it was originally intended to be I (capital) but someone in Avaya at some point miss read it as an l (lower case L) & so the term Localized was invented as a cover up :)

Surly Avaya could not have really been that daft?

I do not Have A.D.D. im just easily, Hey look a Squirrel!

Impossible :)
But the sticker on the back of the phones say "L" so it is "L" for me :)

@andrepa and tlpeter

The R7 matrix that I have dated June, 2011 indicates the 1608-I requires R6 software to operate.

Your posts indicate R5.0.22; has there been a change or does it work on R5.0.22 and is only supported on R6?

Thanks for any help or docs you can steer me to to clarify my confusion.

indeed that doc has caught me too

V5.0.22 was released after that document & the release notes do state that 16XXi/L handsets are now supported (& I can confirm they do work) but I do not have the bulletin number to hand, you do trust me don't you?

I found the TB for 5.0.26 and 5.0.24 but havent found the TB for 5.0.22

@IPGuru - of course I trust you; you are a guru aren't you :)

Here they are both 5.0.20 and 5.0.22

Why both of them?
When i read 5.0.20 then i see support for those phones and not in 5.0.22

And i am so very sure it was 5.0.22 and not 5.0.20 but it looks like i am wrong.
Or are the docs wrong????

Thanks all for the clarification and also tlpeter for the help with the 5.0.20 doc link.
