Hi all,

Random question. I know Avaya at one point in time sold 1416 telephones that had English labels under the feature keys (Transfer written under transfer, etc. etc.). I was told they no longer make phones like this and they just come blank with the symbols. I have a lot of older clients who have a hard time distinguishing and remembering all the different symbols. Is there a label type solution that you have found that works well and looks clean and professional? Or does Avaya still sell that particular phone with a modified sku? I appreciate all the help.

It must have saved them 10 cents per phone taking them off, it's cost them a fortune since in lost sales as people hate them with no labels, well done Avaya.

But no, I haven't found any label and Avaya no longer sell those useful phones anymore :)

I guess it was too difficult for the Chinese to spell

If you are in the US they do have companies selling a label that fits on the phone. Search "English text label for Avaya 1416" or 1408 and you should find someone who is selling them.

Losing the labels means selling more 9508s since the softkeys do most of the work. I've used the Metroline solution and they are OK, but I think look out of place. Buy extras to practice on as they can be tricky to get just right.

Apart from the labels of the fixed buttons selling 9508 makes more sense because you don't have to care about printing and cutting paper labels (mostly twice) like a school boy.

True but the 14 and 16 hundred series have better microphones and speakers. The sound quality of the 95 and 96 series is a bit muffled. I like the weight of the former as it just feels more rugged.

I have to say I like the 9508 as well, but there have been occasions when I push the 1416 because having at least 16 buttons in front of you at the same time can sometimes make a feature easier to use. It's struggle sometimes when you have to flip pages to get to the 2nd part of a sequence. Can't recall off the top of my head which one, but it was a pain. It may have been "call record" where the user called out to someone where he wanted to record, flipped to page 2 where the record button was and when the party answered the system must have seen it as a completed call (PRI) and flipped the 9508 back to page 1 just as he pressed the button of course and twinned out to his cell! (he had the twinning button in that place on page 1).

Regarding the global buttons, I have been handing out the sheet with the illustration that includes the words. During training on the new system, we spend a little more time explaining the logic of the icons. For example we say:

the transfer button has the "from and to" handsets. "i will transfer from me to you"

the conference button has 3 handsets on it (you and 2 others).

the contacts is a book - "i hold my hands like the allstate insurance commercial guy.

the last number (redial) is the last number (I point back behind me - like the arrow on the key pointing back).

It's a work in progress, what can I say!

Hey all, I appreciate all of the helpful responses. TouchToneTommy shared a link exactly like what I'm looking for, albeit, it would be nice if they had something with a clear adhesive rather than black. Also, mikedphones your response was really helpful. Sounds like I may have to start with just spending more time training on the feature keys and supplement stickers when necessary. We certainly prefer the 1416's due to their close similarity to the 18-D. Thanks again everyone! Great thread I feel will be useful to others as well.
