Hi,

For a while now, the autoplay feature on my PC doesn't function. Whether I put in a data CD / Music CD / SD Card - whatever, I no longer get the "What do you want to do" dialogue box.

I've done the Control Panel / Hardware & Sound / Autoplay thing, and the "use Autoplay for all media & devices is already checked.

Any ideas ?

Thanks in advance [thumbsup2]

Thanks aich69,

I followed the link which told me to type service.msc in the Start/Search box.... It wasn't found on my PC.

I then followed a further instruction to reset a registry setting to the Vista default. Upon restarting the PC, everything is now working OK.

Thanks again

pleased that worked for you and thanks for the star [smile]

just for future reference type'services.msc', that will get you there, if you typed service.msc as in your post then that's why it wouldn't be found, easy mistake to leave off a letter though, we've all done it [smile]

Sometimes it's best not to enable autoplay, especially if it's a CD/DVD acquired from friend or family member. It gives you a chance to scan it before introducing it to your system. You can still play it after scanning using Windows Explorer. JMHO

A continuation along the lines of LilBob's thought - if you want to selectively not autoplay; hold the shift key when you insert the CD/DVD.
