This may be a very generic question but here goes:
We have a new customer that we are in the process of installing 8 IP Office 9.1 systems. The customer has ordered 5 of the sites new PRI service through AT&T. During the order process they were told that AT&T doesn't sell traditional PRI service any longer and that the service that they would be getting is called IP Flex PRI. We, ourselves, haven't come across that service yet and were wondering if anyone else has used this service? And if so, what are your comments on the quality and ease of installation?
Any comments would be helpful to us and to our customer. Thanks in advance...

If its anything like Windstreams offering then it is SIP presented as PRI and so from your perspective you can just treat it as a normal PRI connection.

If it is something else then no idea!

An IP Flex PRI is just a regular PRI as far as you are concerned. It is SIP an AT&T's network with a PRI handoff as opposed to a traditional T-Span or HDSL T1 over copper wires. It still plugs into a PRI card and still has the normal settings like B8ZS, ESF, etc.

and if you have issues with voice path it is their SIP not working properly :)
had that happen on a couple of systems with the Adtran unit that converted SIP to PRI

Hey guys, thanks for all the input.
And Westi I think you just gave me the answer to anoyhe issue we just ran across last week. The same customer has one site with EarthLink and they use an Adtran router to connect to the PRI. Customer has lots of issues with outbound calls and bad connections. Only outbound and only local. We have changed everything from the wire between us and them to the PRI card in the IPO. Still have problem. Thanks again

SoGaIPO, thanks for the star and yes those issues are annoying especially when the customer is caught in the middle because the system is OK and the line provider is not doing their job.
I miss analog lines :) rarely had an issue with those

Get rid of Earthlink, that is your core issue. Nothing but a headache with these guys, you will thank me in the long run

Heads up!! You may have trouble if you have any analog devices attached to the IP Office. We have had to bring POTs lines back in for Fax, Credit Card Terminals and Postage Machines. AT&T finally admitted that analog devices will not work properly on the Flex.

fax or modems over SIP, sounds like trouble every time I have had it except if fax over t.38 is supported and even then it is not a 100% it seems.
I always lower the fax speed to 9600Bd if I can get into the Admin menu

Hey, thanks for the heads up on the fax issue. In the past AT&T has been the only carrier that fax service would work on their traditional PRI. But makes since that SIP trunks would guarantee fax.

And thanks Joe for the heads up regarding EarthLink, never did like those guys either. Of course, being an old Tip-and-Ringer, I only trust AT&T copper. Whether analog or T1...
