ASU II, Amphenol, Block...

T1 Smart Jacks for LD and Local

Client required move from "phone room" that was occupied by systems for over 20 years, to new data center. T1 for local and LD.

Successful move to new location. New Smart Jacks and cable ran about a year ago in preparation for this event. Ran new Amphenol cables from data center to block, punched both down properly on 110 block. Punched down C4's properly. Test tone on each pair before and after punch down and C4 punch, all but 3 were good. ASU II connected with crossover cable to the 3300.

ISSUE... I moved system. Did not change any configurations. Connected everything, Everything came up as it should, Except ASU II of which I plugged in a standard cable instead of crossover. Plugged in proper cable, ASU II stopped blinking red. MXe III found the ASU II, all was great. Punched down elevator phones and tertiary alarm of building... dialed out fine. Started punching down FAX machines, dial out, faxes on other end gets fax... WRETURN FAX CANNOT RECEIVE. I double checked and toned all lines... they are leading to proper locations and on blocks AND I get tone and can dial out. I even switched one location on block by doing all proper settings in the controller... STILL CALL OUT... CANNOT RECEIVE.

Testing on block directly from Amphenols.... I can call out, cannot call IN to buttset.

I am fresh out of ideas on this, perhaps something simple I am missing.

Have you configmed that the extensions are on the correct cable pairs

Can you make a call from the circuit to an IP phone and confirm that the extension is correct?

perhasps the cable was terminated backwards

If I never did anything I'd never done before , I'd never do anything.....

Yeah, that was one of my first thoughts too after toning everything. I went back and "repunched" everything again and followed a chart because I second guessed myself on the order of the pairs.

I can call from an IP phone at the business and it shows proper extension (1234) and assigned name (Billy's Fax). I can call in the phone number and it will continuously ring the number but nothing will pick up. I can put a buttset on the line at the block and it will not ring the set. (Batteries good, just changed them)

If I call out on the line it will give the business name on my cell but not the actual number I am dialing from. ie. I call from number... 987-123-4567 (Which is extension 1234 - Billy's Fax) It shows up on my cell as "Donate Your Money Casino" (Business Name).

I am sure there is something simple that I am overlooking and I cannot come up with the solution so far. Some of the departments in this place refuse to scan to email and make excuses to keep the fax machines. I would not have this issue if they would all just dump the damn fax machines. lol
 
Have you tried:

[li]Internal Call to Idle Device (From another analog device on the same ASU)[/li]
[li]Internal Call to Busy Device (From itself to itself - expect busy)[/li]
[li]External Call to Idle Device[/li]
[li]External Call to Busy device[/li]
[/ul]

I'm guessing at this point that something changed that you are not aware of. The internal tests should shed some light on what exactly.

If the symptoms are identical from internal vs External then it might be an issue with the ASU. If so, do any ports ring on the ASU?

ISSUE SOLVED!!! Thanks guys for the replies.

I went in and unplugged the ASU. Removed the Amphenol plugs from the cards. Made sure cards were set properly. Blew out the connectors on the cards and the cable ends with canned air. Cleaned both connectors with alcohol. Reseated the Amphenol plugs, ensured everything is even and tight. Restarted the ASUII... Now I have full duplex again. THANKS!!!
