My home page has been hijacked and the default internet home page just says about blank, but I cannot change it back. I am also being inundated with popups.

PCCillian from Trend keeps telling me that I have the troj_uploader.f virus, and I keep quarentining it, yet I still keep getting it.

Where can I get Hijack This? Adaware and Spybot have done nothing to solve this problem.

I spent 2 weeks getting it off my laptop (my sister borrowed it and got it hijacked) and I don't want to keep fooling with this. This is a work computer and I need it clean.

Any help would me greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Julie

I followed your advice. Unfortunately, I cannot run Hijack This. Everytime I run it, Windows encounters an error and shuts the application down.

Spyguard keeps telling me that my homepage has changed.

Help!!!

did you run it in safe mode? what os are you using?

Have you got the latest version of HJT? Try this..

Then get AboutBuster from Major Geeks...

Load and run that in Safe Mode 2 or 3 times.

Once you're clean, get FireFox from..

Try searching this forum for about:blank - you'll be astounded at how many times this problem has been 'fixed', only for the User to return to their old careless surfing ways, still using IE6, then crying when they get A:B'd again!

Of course it is always difficult to know when you don't know the software used on the machine but stopping a lot of start up programs don't hurt anyway. I would also suspect more than one Trojan and reccommend Trend Micro's 'Sysclean' stand alone cleaner as this picks up more trojans than anything else I have used - including Stinger - you can download it at - then of course run Spybot and Adaware, clean all temp, temp internet files and cookies folders out.

Hope this helps!

don't fix these , these are legitimate progs.

This is the reason I mentioned it is difficult to know without knowing the machine and the software you run - BUT - I can see no legitimate reason for the SQL to be a running process, the MDM.exe is more than likely a debug for your modem that is not necessary and I would be suspicious of the rest.

As a general rule, you do not NEED most stuff in start up that run in the background and they simply take resources from the running of your machine, if you want a program running in the background, then start it manually!!

% can't find anything that says this string is legitimate and would get rid personally

HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{AE0817A0-C87B-43B6-B5E3-FD258DB29E85}: NameServer = 205.152.175.254,205.152.0.5

khaz - can you be clearer why these are legitimate for me please?

Thanx

Kes:)

C:\WINDOWS\System32\inetsrv\inetinfo.exe

"inetinfo.exe" belongs to Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) and is used for debugging."

BUT...

"Any malware can be named anything - so you should check where the files of the running processes are located on your disk. If a "non-Microsoft" .exe file is located in the C:\Windows or C:\Windows\System32 folder, then there is a high risk for a virus, spyware, trojan or worm infection!"

The tcpip one looks like it relates to LOP.com - a common and malicious hijacker

To me, it is better to kill things that are unnecessary than to risk constant reinfection..

Kes:)

You can always check here ( ) for suspicious Processes, DLL's, and Folders...

I agree with Kesser on this one:

HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{AE0817A0-C87B-43B6-B5E3-FD258DB29E85}: NameServer = 205.152.175.254,205.152.0.5

@pnabby - run the immunization from SpyBot, aswell as Javacool's SpywareGuard, after cleaning... disable your ActiveX while you are at it...

and before doing a clean up of the system, disable System Restore, as some of the 'Nasties' out there like to use it to reinitialize themselves...

Ben

If it works don't fix it! If it doesn't use a sledgehammer...

aboutbuster can also help with one of your issues.
