Hi, I'm a beginner on these boards. I have been having a problem with the security threat mentioned in the thread name (Spyware.Apropos.C). It, for some reason, is alerting the security program that there is a dll file or some executable (most frequenlty ace.dll) even though it was deleted some time ago.

It's distressing because when I close the window of the Symatec program it pops back up in a few moments. I've been noticing several other things happening with my computer. Particularly when I shut down. There is a message box that drwin.exe (or so) can't shut down, or has had an interupted process, along with another one that I'll mention as soon as I see it again.

Another problem that I believe is related is that when I go on the internet Internet Explorer encounters a problem (even if I'm not using it... I use Opera normally) and it needs to close.

Any help is appreciated.

From what I've seen Symantec products are not very good at removing spyware. I have found Webroot's SpySweeper to be an excellent product that has a free 30 day demo.

IE is an integral part of any win32 OS and is not only preloaded in memory but is frequently running behind the scenes. It is the attack vector for most virii/spyware, mainly due to the vulnerabilities in ActiveX.

rom8n. Are you using Symantec Antivirus 10 or NAV 2006?

Oggywan,

I am using Symantec Antivirus 10, and it is fully updated. Any ideas?

Thanks Lawn boy for your suggestion, I'll go check how it is.

Ah, and sorry for the double up but I thought I should report that the 'autoscan' feature of the program has:

Scanned Files: 50444 Infected Files: 20858

and it's growing each passing momment. The base of the infected file cannot be found on my computer not by either eye (wiht all files visible) or by start>>search.

Any help is much appreciated.
