I have a customer requesting an AP1120 installation. I have access to the Hipath Service Docs (US Versions) but there is no configuration or setup info about this product. The Siemens WIKI site hasn't much to offer either. I am attempting this on a US Hipath 4000 V3.0. I think it's configured under SBCSU but I don't have the all the flags, COS and SDAT settings needed. Also are these plug and play or do they need a static IP address set? Is there any manual on configuring the device via laptop or something?? Thanks for any info.

The AP1120 is available in two flavors: Cornet-IP (also known as "HFA"), and SiP. The HiPath 4000 V3.0 supports both, but the Cornet-IP version, which is basically H.323, is the most commonly-used. The AP1120 will support one or two analog ports.

The "Cornet-IP" AP1120 will emulate one or two IP/HFA phone(s) e.g. optiPoint 420; therefore you need a HG3530 gateway. Use SBCSU to configure up to two unique stations on the HG3530, just like you were configuring regular IP/HFA phone(s).

To configure the AP1120, you must use "UMN" software (Unit Manager Network), which can be downloaded from the Siemens Software Supply server (SWS) or perhaps the SEBA portal. You can also fetch it directly from the manufacturer's website. Click the provided link for a PowerPoint slideshow that should help you with the AP1120 setup.

Essentially you will build the AP1120 to register as the one or two new HFA stations that you previously built on the HG3530. You then connect the analog phone(s) directly to the AP1120, and when you go offhook on an analog phone, the AP1120 emulates Cornet-IP/HFA signaling to the HG3530, which draws dialtone from the HiPath 4000. The AP1120 converts the proprietary Cornet-IP packets into analog, and vice versa.

If using the analog port(s) for FAX or modem, please re-post later, preferably after the AP1120 can provide dialtone to an analog phone. At that time I can provide a few more hints.

I have some docs I can send you if you would like. I use several AP 1120's in my environmnet and they work great.

I have some AP1120's working, but am having recurring problems when trying to use them with modems, fax machines and credit card terminals. Is there a 'trick' to getting them to work with those devices? I can get analog dial tone from the RJ11, and make voice calls, but get errors with fax/modems.

Typically these devices transmit their data in packets that are subject to compression, elimination of silence, and other things that you wouldn't really notice hearing the spoken word, but when you have a continuous stream of data sounds that needs to stay accurate and unbroken to remain synchronized like what happens in modems, faxes and the like, this process doesn't hold up too well.

If you can get them to connect at all there would likely be a lot of errors and retransmissions, etc, which would eventually result in a dropped call or an aborted transfer - at least that's the experience I've had while trying to make the stuff work.

There might be a way to increase the bandwidth and accuracy of the connection to provide better service, but I have asked around over the years when trying to use modems and faxes over Vonage, Lingo and the like, and no one has ever offered a solution to this problem in general.
