Twice recently, when I've been trying to upgrade a system from 9.0 to 4.0 to 4.2 I've had an issue where the SWI tool errors out and tells me that the license password is invalid during phase 2 (4.0 to 4.2).

The license password in both cases was downloaded from the AMC by the SWI tool.

Last night was particularily frustrating as I forgot to get a new manual backup after migrating the DB. I had to roll back to 4.0 and call it a night.

Anyone else have this issue?

dont see why that would be the case and even if so dont see why it would cause the error that it did just maybe load the software and then stop as licensing could not be verified

The licensing is not verified during the install.

The new password and licensing is downloaded to the SWI tool before you start the upgrade. No further connection is required to the AMC (I've experimented with this several times)

For the system to tell me that the Licensing was invalid it would require that the licensing was delivered invalid from the AMC.

This is the crux of my question:

If it can happen to me, how often does it happen?

It seems that it does not happen all that often or the responses here would not be investigating what I might have done wrong.

Suffice it to say that I am satified that it is not all that common and that I did everything right.

I too had an issue last night upgrading from 4.0 to 4.2 and the SWI came back saying my license was invalid.had to swap back to 4.0 and call it a night.

I've been meaning to update this thread with some new insights and new issues that I've encountered.

First Insights - with respect to the original issue, it was theorized by Mitel that the Dimensioning on the system may have been previously modified to a value that is no longer valid. The issue then being with the dimensioning not the licensing per-se.

What I found is that, despite what the SWI reported, the Licenses were in fact loaded and Synced with the AMC. I was able to simply restore my DB that I made post migration at Rel 4.0 and everything was good.

Now for a new issue: Again occuring when I upgraded from 4.0 to 4.2. The SWI completed without any errors and reported that the upgrade was complete. When I checked the phones however, none were working. This quickly led me to the fact that I no longer had a database loaded. I was able to restore my DB and everything came up fine but I have to ask why the system didn't seem to do this, or if it did, how it failed without any form of notification.
