Hi,
I visited a site with IP Office 406v2 with DS Module 16.User complained he couldnt receive incoming calls but could nake outgoing calls. I checked the config (incoming call route)and the Line config. Didnt see anythg wrong with the config.
Calls are switched at the Telco's end but doesnt ring out of the box, not in any of the four ports. In fact, only on port 2 can outgoing call be made, others were just giving busy tones. I connected an analog phone directly to the trunk line and could receive incoming calls.
I believe the card is bad.......anyone with ideas?
if I have to change the card, does it require any configuration?

I would say its programming. And I'm not doubting your abilities.
Do you have an Incoming call route set for each trunk group set in your line settings and are the users/groups in service.
Do you look for CLI on the analogue lines within the line settings?

Post all of the line settings here, for each line. Post your ICR's, post your Short codes for dialing out, including the secondary dial tone one if using. Also, check thwe ground on the system.

If all that is good, I have one other item that worked for me.

Save CFG, Power down
Remove the Analog card.(TRUNK)
Power back up
The hardware should now not show up for the trunks in question now since they have been removed. If the lines still show in programming, delete them for these trunks via manager. Save the CFG.
Reboot, double check all reference to the lines are now gone.

Power down for 10 minutes. Re-install analog trunk card, reprogram the lines.

Test.

Basically, you want the trunk card removed physically, and programming wise from the system, then put them back in, and reprogram.

I would also suggest, never use line group ZERO for anything, except for the default short codes. Make a new line group for your lines, do not use ZERO. I have eliminated many issues by simply doing this to systems already in the field.

Thanks a lot Aarenot for your detailed reply. I have left the site now, I could have produced the line and ICR settings. No changes were made to the settings before the malfunction, Theprovider thinks it might be a programming issue. Could there have been a programming error even though the config was not touched?

CFG could have become corrupt, but that usually comes from sending a CFG, like saving a change. Does anyone on site admin the system? Another item could be if the system was not upgraded properly to it's current release originally.
Also, if the card came unseated, reseating it can fix it. When a trunk card is not seated properly look out, it can show up as a different type card than what it is. In that case best to remove the card from the CFG, and reprogram the trunks.

NO problem on the help.

Hi guys,
Talking about the Analogue card,I was informed that a new one has been installed. But calls are still not ringing on phones, though using the sysmonitor, calls are going into the IP Office system.
I wouldnt know if the Technician that installed it followed the procedure highlighted by aarenot, but in the event that he did and calls still dont ring out, what else do I have to do? Many tanx

It sounds like the group id's on the trunks are not what is reflected in the group id's on the incoming trunks etc.

Check that the incoming group id on the trunk is the same as the line group id on the incoming call route.

How many trunks do you have plugged in? With analogue trunks, if you have 4 trunks in the same line group, but only 2 plugged in say, it will sometimes try to dial out/in over the 2 unused trunks! Easiest way is to either make the unused trunks in a different line group, or make them "out of service" in the line group - it's an option in one of the drop downs.

I do know that we have had to replace some dodgy ATM4 cards however.....!

Thanks guys....The site used to have four analogue trunks, two of which went bad. They were using the other two until they started noticing this problems of not being able to receive calls, but could make outgoing calls.
My question is........might sound stupid but pardon me...how do you associate an analog trunk to a particular port on a 4-port card?

Physically plug that trunk into that particular port. If you want restricted access to that trunk then assign it it's own outgoing line group ID (done within the line settings tab) with shortcodes to dial on it set to which ever user you want to have access.

Then check with your telco how the trunks are setup for stepping and confirm that matches your customers needs for incoming calls.

Hi Guys, I'd be going to the site in question tomorrow. Have asked for the analogue trunks to be properly protected with surge protectors cos the area is prone to heavy rains.
I noticed that each time you make a change and you save, the whole unit restarts, is that the way it is for all the IP Office boxes, regardless of the software version?
One question which I'm not very clear about; if I plug a trunk line to port one for instance, does the system know that a line is pluged in? How do I program that particular line on from the Manager?
And if I put a line out of service, how am I sure that I've not put a working line out of service......you know what I mean?

Surge suppression is a good diea. The reboots are normal for some types of changes, and the IPO prompts that when needed. The system does not detect an active trunk on a trunk port, it assumes there is one there if programmmed to use the trunk port.
In line section of manager click on one of the analog trunks, then click help, and read about incoming group ID, and outgoing group ID. They will tell you how the trunks are routed in, and out of the IPO. The line numbers shown in manager, line section, should start with the first line on the IPO control unit(slot A), with ATM4'$ this would be lines 1-4 left to right in slot A. Slot B, lines 5-8 left to right in slot B.

If I had the configuration I could help more. I am at My Special Network DO The translation COMe, and my profile name preceeds this.

You might want to get some training on the system though, it can be risky to play with the IPO if you do not know what you are doing. No offense, I know because I have made some mistakes.

Hi Guys,
I'm happy to announce to you that I've resolved the incoming call problems!!! Thanks to you guys.........Aarenot, you're da man!!!!
What I did was check thouroughly the config for the Lines & Analog options, then the Incoming route forms, I matched the Line ID to the Incoming line ID. I didnt even have to power down, but I restarted the unit each time I made the change. I also reset the incoming destination phone.
I think you guys are great, keep Tek-Tips alive!!!

bidon123,
You are the one who got it done! You found a problem, then when looking for the solution, and did not give up until you found the resource that would help, and used it. I think you will do good if you keep that not give up attitude, maybe you should be working for yourself.

Im saying nothing.
