Hi all

This is my first post here so please forgive if any of this question is obvious.

(FYI I'm primarily a programmer in our small business so not a telecoms engineer but have been learning about our IP Office system to be able to configure it as necessary. We are located in Spain if that's necessary for any locale-specific settings.)

We have an IP Office 500 V2 system (firmware 6.1 (5)) with two expansion modules:
- External expansion module with 16 analog ports (ANALOG POTS16+)
- internal IP500 Combination Card w/4 Analog Trunks (700476013)

The problem is with the combo card, we have a single analog trunk line from our telecoms provider connected to port 9 but it is not working. Incoming calls to that line receive a message that the line is busy. The call doesn't even get as far as the switchboard, it is as if the two copper wires of the trunk line are connected. If I disconnect the trunk line from the switchboard and connect a standard analog phone it works normally, I get a dialling tone and can receive incoming calls. If I connect the the analog phone and then at the same time connect the switchboard using an adaptor, the phone immediately loses the dialing tone as soon as the switchboard is connected, again as if it is shorting the two copper wires of the trunk line.

On the combo card, apart from port 9, the only other ports in use are 1-4 (for 4 digital phones) and ports 7-8 (two analog phones).

I have tried connecting the analog trunk to port 11 on the combo card and it appears to work correctly. Does this sound like a problem with the combo card? The card is only 13 months old (i.e. just out of warranty) but I'm not sure if this could be a hardware issue or configuration.

Many thanks,

Andy

If it works on port 11. Then then line is fine.
Try port 10' or 12. See if it works there..

If so it could be a hardware issue.

Switch off the system and pull the card out.
Inspect it for any burn marks ...

If it's is faulty you will need to change the card.

Or leave it working on port 11 .

You might have to take the other lines out of service to reduce the line pool down to 1 working line.

Indeed the practical solution would be to use port 11 whilst you look at the settings of the ports 9 and 11 to see if there are any differences.

Ensure that the analog trunk ports being used have been set as out of service otherwise you'll next be asking why 3 out of 4 outgoing call attempts fail.

Stuck in a never ending cycle of file copying.

Many thanks to both of you for your prompt replies. I'll wait until we have a bit of down time so that I can shutdown and inspect the card. In the meantime, as port 11 seems to be working at least I'm not getting any complaints from users.

We hardly use the analog trunk, most calls go via SIP, it's just useful as a backup, just annoying that the backup was broken!
