Hello again everybody
an issue with my IPO 9.0 on analog faxes.
First of all, I set up 2 analog extensions/users, which are working good with pots phones (dial in / out).
But if I use analog fax instead of phones, I can't establish fax calls between the two of them (not to mention towards outside faxes), it seems like the calling fax closes the connection after few ms before even starting dialing.

I don't have much troubleshooting possibilities, since this does not appear as a problem with routing or subsequent actions. What do you think about it? Is there any specific setting related to analog faxes that I can try?

Thank you for your kind help

how is the extension built as, we have ours to a standard telephone and they work fine

Hi joe
It's the default extension for an analogue line, no modifications on it. Well, I even tried to change the device classification as "fax" but it didn't change the result (afaik it has nothing to do with my issue).

Again, if I connect phones on that ports, it will work just fine. The issue is only with fax machines.

Most fax machines have to ports, one for line and the other for phone, hopefully you have the connection plugged into the line port

Most time you have to disable dial tone and busy time detection in the fax machine.

@joe2938: indeed, the Line is used and its type is configured as "PBX"

@derfloh: this fax machine apparently doesn't have those settings.

What happens from the fax machine point of view is: scanning the paper, dialing, after few seconds intermitting beep, like if it's waiting for the other party to detect the tone. But from the IPO side, analog port, I can see a Setup with no dialed digits, then after few ms a release complete from the fax (to indicate that the dialing phase is complete) but no digits in the middle. I would expect to receive some Information's in the middle to convey digits, as it happens with standard phones.
By the way, it's the same behavior if we use Tone or Pulse dialing on the fax.

Pulse is not supported by IPO.

Does an analogue phone work?

Yes, analogue phone works just fine, dialing in and out

Is the fax machine adding a digit, or removing a digit? What do you see when you look at the System Status as the call goes out.

With that you will see exactly what is happening. Then dial into the fax machine and see what is happening. SSA helps me a lot!

Regards

@azrael2000 thanks for the tip, I used to work on ssa just on purpose but I didn't think to use it in this case.

Some updates on my side: we are now using a different fax machine, this one at least can send dial digits to the IPO. But now I have an issue sending the call to the outgoing trunk, I mean, the fax dials all the expected digits (9), but in order to have the full number sent to the PRI trunk I need to set the dial delay count to 9.
If I don't do that, only a part of the number is sent in the Setup, while the remaining digits (which the fax does correctly send to IPO) are not forwarded to the trunk. Which means the other side would tear down the call after 10s because the number is incomplete.

The problem is that this DDC setting is global on IPO, and I don't really want the counter to be 9, I think it will cause a delay in all calls, right?

And by the way, do you have any clue why the remaining digits are not sent in overlap to the trunk side?

Thank you all
