Hi can anyone help i have recently purchaced an Amd k6 500 Cpu and my TX pro 2 motherboard in the cmos setup screen will only go up to a 333mhz
Can any one help me to put it to the right speed
PLEASE ROB
you need to update your cmos bios.find out who made your computer or motherboard and go to their web site and download the latest bois.you also need to follow their instructions or you will foul up your bios and your system wont start.be careful.if this bothers you find someone who can do it for you.
that, or if it is a jumpered motherboard... he may need to open the booklet on it and find out the clock speed and multiplier settings for those jumpers...
My motherboard dosent have any jummpers to do with th CPU.
I am going to have to buy a new motherboard Can any one tell me what the best motherboard out today is? it must be a socket 7 and have at least 2 dimm pc 100s slots
Thanks ROB
roberking can you tell us who made your system or motherboard and model number.i know pc chips makes a board with tx pro 2 that supports many different cpu speeds.first if the board was made before the processor it wont find it at that speed.a bois update allows the board to find the proper cpu speed. on some boards this is the only way settings will change.some it is done in cmos settings and some use dip swiches.
I believe your Mother Board has a jumper which is set to work at 66 Mhz FSB. If you can refer the technical manual of the mother board & locate a jumper which sets the FSB to 100 Mhz, I believe you will resolve your problem.
look on the motherboard for a 1" square chip, it may be an Intel chip, what number and letter is it, if it says LX at the end that board can only handle 333Mhz. If in doubt get the Ball Pein Hammer out
pcchips.com has this board the tx pro2 m572 lmr it supports cpu's up to 450 mhz fsb to 83mhz no 100mhz. it look like this cpu you got wont work unless you run it at 83x6 if you can set it up this way.it still would be better to get a better motherboard.hope this helps
The PC Chips TX-ProII(571LMR) mobo will not run at 500mHz. The first version came out much before the AMD K6-2-500. If memory serves me, they kept tweaking the board and the final version runs up to 450mHz, but you probably have an older version. Look for the version number on the upper right hand corner just to the right of the keyboard connector. Clock it up as fast as you can and go look for another board. If you are happy with PC Chips you can drop the K6 500 into an 585 LMR or 598 LMR for a cheap, all in one board. I worked on a 571 a week or two ago. Think it had a Cyrix 300 in it.
