I have a problem where all external mail sent to a specific account is being forwarded to an external address. The emails only go to the external address and not the internal one

Initially this was intentional, in that the account was set up to have an alternate recipient which was a CR pointing to an internet address. I have removed the alternate recipient and even the CR. But still the mails are forwarded on. The fact that they do not also go to the internal address is starting to cause problems.

I ahve even copied all all the mails to a personal mailbox, deleted the exchange mailbox and recreated the account but to no avail.

I am running ms exchange 5.5

any help with this is appreciated

Regards

Ian

Something still owns the SMTP address - a hidden object, perhaps? It sounds to me like the CR is still there, and has the SMTP address being sent to as a secondary - this would turn the inbound message around and send it externally again.

Hi ZBNet

I have checked through the enitre accounts list including hidden items, and can find nothing that could be holding onto this. Any thoughts? I would have thought that deleting the account would sort this out, but having done this twice I am at my wits end

If you are forwarding the email to an off site address, a question would be is this a custom recipient? If it is, its hard, the easier way is to create a mailbox, there is an option in the mailbox properties called Delivery Options. Towards the bottom you will see an Alternate Recipient, put in your custom recipient. A check box then lights up, click on it and both the mailbox and the custom recipient will receive the email... I do it and works great! Let me know your progress...

thanks for your response, but i think you have misunderstod my problem. I had initially done exactly as you have said, however I have since needed to receive the alternate recipient. So I simply went into delivery options and selected none on the alternate recipient. Additionally i deleted the custom recipient mailbox. However the emails are still going to the alternate recipient. To make matters worse, the emails are not going to the original recipient at all.

hope that makes things a little clearer
