This document refers to the Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Service Pack 1 Redistributable Package ATL Security Update that is used in Aloha POS versions 6.9 and lower.
Aloha POS versions 6.4 through 6.9 are compiled using Microsoft Visual Studio 2005.
The VC++ Redistributable is used on the Back-of-House (BOH) file server, and it is also used on the Front-of-House (FOH) terminals only if fingerprint scanning is enabled.
Aloha versions 6.4.15 and higher require the latest VC++ Redistributable.
If you are using Aloha versions 6.4 through 6.9, then you must install the new VC++ Redistributable. For 6.4 versions prior to 6.4.15, it is required in order to maintain your PCI compliance. For versions 6.4 through 6.9, it is required for compliance and also to enable Aloha POS functionality. If you upgrade to Aloha version 6.4 through 6.9 and you do not apply the new VC++ Redistributable, then Aloha will not function and you will receive the following error:
This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix the problem.
The error will not display once you install the new vcredist_86.exe. A reboot is not required.
You can obtain the new version of VC++ 2005 Service Pack 1 Redistributable from Microsoft.
The Aloha Update patch only updates Aloha binary files. Aloha Update will perform prerequisite checking for the newer version of the VC++ Redistributable. If the newer version is not found, then the Aloha Update patch will exit until the minimum requirements have been met. You would then need to obtain the VC++ Redistributable and install it, as mentioned above.
This is some documentation I found on the Aloha Web site.
