I have an Aloha 5.3 on a Win 2000 server . We had an external (parallel) US Robotics 56k modem die on us. We replaced it w/ a USB 56K modem. The USB modem works fine in Windows and w/ all the phone/fax apps available. But EDC doesn't like it. As soon as it tries to initialize it it is "offline" or "open". The USB modem maps to COM3 and editing the EDC.ini seems straight forward. I called the tech support and after about a few hours of troubleshooting they came to an conclusion that USB modems don't work w/ EDC and that the COM p EDC recognizes may only go as high as COM2. Mapping to COM2 was an issue as it conflicted w/ Windows. I am assuming we would have to get ourselves an another parallel/serial modem. Are there any specs/requirements for the modem to have beside being a serial/parallel modem, I don't want to risk the gamete of buying another modem just for it to be not compatible w/ EDC.
