I am sorry if this has been answered before but I cannot find the formula on here.

I use a set of ratings for horseracing and I have two sets, one for the best rating achieved and one for the rating achieved on the last run.

What I have to do at present is add up these up manually to get an average rating.

For instance

Col A 100 Col B 200 Col C 150

Col A is the best rating
Col B is the last time rating
Col C would be the average rating.
Some days Col A would go from A1 to A 300 and the same with B
I have sometimes over 300 horses to rate each day and it is time consuming. Is there a formula in excel to make this easier?

Thanks for your time and any help is much appreciated.

Regards
Rob

If I wasn't Blue, I would just be a Dragon...

Rob,

Try looking at Excel Help (F1) and type formula in the Index Tab, Keyword box.

Can't get what to work? In cell C2 (assuming the first row is for headers), type in
=(A2+B2)/2
or just
=average(A2,B2)
That gives you the average of the first two columns.

Thanks

So how do I get the average on every row.

Today I had over 300 calculations.

Do I have to write out the formula for each and every column.

For instance

A1 + B1
A2 + B2
A3 + B3
A4 + B4

AND SO ON.

mlmrob,

I hate to sound like a jerk, but I should point out for future reference that this board is not a general help desk. None of the contributors here are paid by the site. We all have jobs in computer-related fields and trade tips on how to do our jobs more efficiently. My point is that the requested information is readily available with a simple internet search. You are expected to do some work on your own to find answers before coming here for help. Now, just to show you that I'm not flaming you...

There are multiple ways to accomplish what you want.

Try one of the following:
1)[ul][li]Single click on B1[/li]
[li]Press [Ctrl]+[Down Arrow] (this takes you to the last contiguously populated cell)[/li]
[li]Press [/li]
[li]Press [Ctrl]+[Shift]+[Up Arrow][/li]
[li]Press [Alt] then [e] then then [d] (don't hold any down)[/li]
[/ul]
or
2)[ul][li]hover the cursor over the bottom right hand corner of cell C2 until the cursor changes to a small black +[/li]
[li]click and drag down as far as you have data[/li][/ul]

I hope that helps.
