Adding a new base card--anything I need to know?

Hi All,

I have to add a new base card to expand our system (IP Office 500 V2, R7 Manager). I'm (perhaps stupidly) assuming that I need only install the card and wait for it to be automagically recognized on power-up, at which time I can configure it and start plugging in lines. Is there a guide I can follow or is there anything I need to know?

That's the gist of it. As long as you are powering down the IP Office, then you can insert any of the cards. What card are you adding?

You have the right idea. The only thing to remember on a combo card is the port order. Ports 1-6 are digital stations, port 7&8 and analog stations, and ports 9-12 are analog trunks. If you look at the sticker on the front of the card it will show you this info as well.

Also, for that model, make sure you are running 7.0.12 or higher. The newer version 1 Combo Cards will not work with 7.0.5

We've got 7.0.12. Phew--that would have been annoying. I didn't know about that.

So maybe I'm missing something--I powered down, unplugged, installed the card, rebooted, and the card is getting power and is recognized. But I can't seem to use it--the first led on port 1 flashes red, and that's all I can get it to do. Plugging in a line (to any port) seems to do nothing. What am I missing?

I would upgrade to the latest 7.0 and see what happens then.

Wow--this upgrade is slow! I'm going to have to continue troubleshooting this on Monday after the upgrade is complete.

Also, unless I am mistaken (and I often am), Combo Cards must be installed in the first two slots of the base cabinet.

No, that is not a problem but you can have only two in one system.

Wait--have I misunderstood this? Are we saying I can't have a COMBO6210/ATM4 and 2 DIGSTA8 cards? I understood this was possible as only one is a combo card.

At this point, the system's upgraded and recognizing the new card, but I still just get the 'status ok' led flashing. Not sure where to go next.

You can have that combination yes. You cant have anymore than two combo cards though.

When you reboot it, you need connect a serial cable and watch the IPO boot. It should throw up an error about any cards it cant deal with.

No errors on boot. Figured it out--bad cable. Swapped out for a new one and everything's fine. Thanks for all the help everyone!
