ActiveX vs. DHTML viewer

I just started working in a shop where they use the DHTML viewer. I noticed that when you click the print button, it doesn't print but it exports to pdf instead. After reading up on this, I guess that is how the DHTML viewer is designed to work.

Now I've asked if we can switch to the ActiveX viewer so that clicking the print button will actually make the report print. However I've been told that it will only work in IE and isn't supported by the other browsers (such as Netscape and Firefox). Is this true? And is there a workaround?

I would really like to have the print button working. Also, my reports are graphics intensive and formatting to print preview AND export to pdf nicely is going to double my workload.

Any thoughts are appreciated.
Thanks!

Right, Active-X isn't fully supported by Firefox. There's something called an active-x extension whih might work for you, dunno...

Consider the Java viewer, it's not quite as purdy but it should work for all.

Besides, each user can select their own viewer type under their preferences area, if they use other browsers have them go change the preference to what there's supports.

Hi thanks for the response... I tried the java viewer - it doesn't seem to work at all in firefox.

I'll look into activex extensions tomorrow. Thanks for the ideas!

Hi sorry, we've got CRXI (not sure if it's r2 or not) and we run it from a java based application. The java app appears to launch the DHTML viewer but I dislike the way printing works.

Now I've done some work with Crystal and VB, but I'm not familiar w/ the java side... I don't quite understand how the JRC works, and the different viewers you can use w/ java. Is there a doc that compares them and explains the differences?
